You sense frustration and annoyance, and it's perpetually renewed by responses like this.
We're not paid. Our "benefits" are the ability to try to keep this place under control. Glorious, huh? I have people I consider friends telling me I'm an ******* because I'm trying to keep a site going. Whooo. Yay.
We're trying to be as consistent as we can.
And, as a customer, if you're not getting the response you want from the first line people, what do you normally do? You go to the next level up.
Try a PM to Wingless_Wonder, or the new site owners. Try to help us instead of constantly trying to cause problems. It's not like we're being paid or getting some great benefits as moderators here (or any benefits actually). We're just trying to keep the site running. It's people like Russ, GT35, I-X, etc, who constantly are trying to push the barriers, exploit possible holes or other things that are the ones bringing the site down and hurting your business or lowering your ROI for the ad dollars you spend here.
I'm just gonna throw this out, but all of you guys who scream at the moderators and try to point out inconsistencies and make things hard under the veil of "helping out", should try a different tact. Instead of teaming with the people who are working to bring the site down, try teaming with us - the moderators who volunteer our time to try and keep the site positive.

Is that really in the 'spirit of the rules' that people keep whining
about? Are you outlawing self censorship? Is BS any more or less

perfectly clear since apparently no one can read, and no one bothers to

I have absolutely no problem with having a swear filter, actually, I
think it's a great idea. The problem is that what you are doing now
is moderating based on the intent of a post not its actual content. In
the spirit of this new interpretation of i-club rules I suggest the
following:
* Delete all pictures of people flipping off the camera at meets
(a picture is worth a thousand words after all; that's easily 3000-5000
points)
* Add all potentially offensive phrases and acronyms to the filter
Examples:
* WTF
* GTFO
* BS
* FU
* "Attention sir, I hereby advise you to
fornicate with your fist."
Ask yourself: Are my requests any more or less absurd than the
currently reality of the situation? I was banned for NOT
swearing and NOT dodging the filter. GT35STD was banned for
NOT breaking the rules and (surprisingly) posting relevant
content about something that he and his blood sworn enemy (russb)
actually agree on: right now this forum's head is immeasurably far up
its own internet ***. Why not post those points and the reasoning
for all to see what we were banned for? All this crap happened after I
was banned so how the hell am I destroying the site? Frankly getting
banned and the selective moderation doesn't mean **** to me one way or
another, what pisses me off is all the ****ing ***gotry that has
happened on and off the forum because, apparently, no one can act like
an adult.
I'm not trying to bring the site down.
I'm not trying to get unbanned.
I'm not trying to get the swear filter removed.
I don't hate anyone (though I think Gagan is a douche).
If this stupid **** really causes that much stress for all of you I will
never post again even after I am unbanned. I suggest you all do the same
since you clearly do not have an appropriate avenue for stress
management. It's not worth the asinine and childish actions you feel the
need take on and offline as a result.
So, I'm done. I'm walking away from this whole ridiculous morality vs.
linguistics argument.

That email is awesome Paul
All I have to say is this, if I'm in the wrong for the way I moderate, all they need to do is let the IB folks know. They can even get some members, mods or vendors input on this whole ordeal.
Whatever happens after that is up to IB folks. Cause they run the site.

sorry im not up on nor cal stuff that good so i have no clue who that is sorry
but what i can say is if a potential best customer is turned off by the posts/attitudes by some of the members that are already here the total opertunity cost is high. Yes we dont have to argue this there is no way we can prove there would be a customer turned off or not. This not just Paul but other vendors may be hurt because of it so we have to look out for them too.
I just dont know why people MUST post any kind of profanity at all. Is the vocabulary that bad it must be sprinkled with it for your sentence to cary any weight? I dont do much moderating to be honest so cal pretty much follows the rules and stays in line. I am thankful for that. Maybe because we are older (average is 28) maybe because its 50% women. back in 06 we had problems with NWS and semi NWS stuff and a few peoples' work so we all decided to keep that stuff off the main so cal board. It has benifited us we are able to still post on I-club. If you go into off topic forums you are on your own.
There is no way we can ready every post in everythread. We can only act on what we see. If you honestly think a post is out of line, report it and some one will look into it I promise.
I know this wont change anything people are going to do what they want. We are going to have to do what our job is. Its that simple.
