the camping crates are soon to be replaced with another set of plastic airline crates though (prolly smaller than the ones the garage, those things are built for great danes or something), and put solely on camping duty.
My dogs (Golden/Boxer mix and German Shepherd/Husky mix) have a fenced run on the side of the house. About 8x20. When I have to leave them inside, I generally just leave them in the other bedroom, but after they ate my couch for the third time yesterday I'm going to go back to crating them when I have to leave them in during the day. I got the GSD/Husky after he was returned to the shelter because he has SA and cried all day when his aprtment-dwelling previous owners left him crated alone. Fortunately if he cries in my house the neighbors can't here. He's also older (almost 9 months now) and no longer alone so he probably won't have nearly as much of an issue.
