Coolant Loss

Is anybody else losing coolant? I'm losing about 1/2 cup every 2 months. Does this sound normal?

I read some posts about the stock radiator cap going bad and I'm thinking about replacing it with a crucial racing radiator cap. Does anyone have this cap on a stock radiator? Should I be worried about the extra pressure causing a potential radiator leak?

Yesterday one of my friends was showing me a coolant leak with his car, but he has a Ford ZX2. Guess that doesn't help you much...

Be careful with higher pressure radiator caps as they tend to blow out the plastic end tanks on the stock radiators.

If you're losing coolant, but you don't see or smell it anywhere, you may have bigger problems.

But if you do smell it, check for loose clamps or damage to the radiator.

I changed my coolant about 2 months ago and also changed the upper and lower radiator hoses. I smell coolant sometimes, but I always think it's burn off of when I did the coolant change. Other than the upper and lower coolant hoses, what else can I check? I didn't notice any moisture anywhere.

If it is a bigger problem...what can I do to diagnose it? There is no oil in the overflow tank. I checked the underside of the oil cap and there is no moisture or white film. Are there any other diagnostic checks I could do?

i am losing coolant as well. one day i jacked up my car and there was about a 3" diameter puddle of coolant on the ground. i suspect a leak from the waterpump. too lazy to investigate.

my car has leaked coolant occasionally since the day I brought it home from the dealership. No real pattern to it, sometimes it happens within minutes of startup with no hard driving, and sometimes it won't leak at all during repeated trips down the dragstrip.

I can see evidence of leaks from multiple hoses throughout the engine bay, with most of it from the hose that connects to the turbo, and the large lower hose on the drivers side near the ex manifold. It stops leaking when the fill tank gets to the lower end of where it should be filled to, so I pretty much leave it filled to the min and it has been fine...

Thanks Paul! I'll take you on that offer.

So a pressure test would just add pressure to the cooling system and you would just check for a visible leak somewhere?
