Reading that article made me dumber. My high school baseball coach, coached against Bonds when Barry was a freshman in high school. Bonds saw four at bats, four pitches and had four home runs. Bonds isn't hitting homeruns because of some plastic protector. Thats like saying, wearing a cup will help you hit homeruns, because you aren't afraid your nards are gonna get mashed.

so since you played baseball.. riddle me this..

what happens when you crowd the plate and take away the inside fastball?

what happens to a pitcher when they cannot use the outside of the plate because thats in the sweetspot for the batter?

If you crowd the plate yoy get hit; if you get pitches outside you get ground ***** or walked. Either of which results in more homeruns. All of this information is written by a guy who probably never hit a home run in his life. If anything is an advantage; it's eye glasses or contact lenses. Is anyone going to tell Eric Gagne to stop wearing his eye glasses, because it makes him better? Lastly, there is no rule in Baseball that says you cannot wear that type of protection. It would only be an advantage if no one else can wear it, but since everyone can, then it is still a level playing field.

If you crowd the plate, you get hit, you are correct. Pitchers do not want to hit you and give you a free base. If you are wearing body armor, then getting hit is not an issue and you will stand on top of the plate and hope you do get pegged, it wont hurt.

Now the pitcher has to use the outside of the plate on you, but since you are all over the inside of the plate, this translate to your hitting zone being farther out and able to tee off on those pitches. A pitcher will try to hit outside of your zone, but thats easy now since if you were not crowding the plate, they would have been strikes. These are now ***** being thrown at you and no worries of being struck out.

you did play baseball right?

oh yeah... actually there is a rule in baseball that does not allow body armor unless its for an injury.

Bond's contraption is granfathered into the rule so he can still use it.

Ya, you're right pitchers really hate giving Bonds free bases, thats why he leads the majors in walks all time. Yes, I did play Baseball, I was never a pro and never said that me playing baseball means I know more than you, but you seem to be really hung up on it.

I believe its a mixture of both. He has/had an elbow injury early in his career so he used it, but at the time it did not need any documentation from a doctor about it.

Does the elbow protector Bonds an advantage as a hitter, or not?

He is protected so ya thats an advantage. Do people that wear eye glasses get an advantage while wearing them during a game?
