SCCA Approved Helmet Question

does anyone know if this helmet is ok to use at SCCA (specifically SFR SCCA) events?

I know that starting this season youneed atleast an SA-2005 quality helmet, this one is M-2005...I dont know if the letters matter or not.

M is for motorcycle and SA is for vehicles. The main difference is that the SA ones have flame retardant in them, and the M ones don't. I don't know about SFR specifically, but the Reno region allows M as well as SA helmets for autocross only. In fact, I believe even SA-2000 and M-2000 helmets are still allowed.

You wouldn't be able to use them for track days or Rally America /Nasa Rallysport events, and as I read the rules, I think the M helmets are no longer allowed for rallycross or autocross.

I'd suggest you pony up the extra bucks for an SA, otherwise you may find yourself needing to buy two helmets, which will certainly be more expensive than getting an SA up front.

Good point. For my earlier statement, I meant only for auto-x. I would definitely pony up the extra money to get an SA helmet as well.

ive also heard that the motorcycle helmets are designed to protect against one big impact, as opposed to the car helmet being able to take being bounced off of a roll cage a few times.
