Car Info: subaru impreza rb5
we don't get good weather here either mind you, so it's not something to worry about too much. besides, the japanese make amazing cars which do seem not to rust too quickly!
by the way, my friend over here want's to know if anyone here know's somewhere to buy a cusco oil catchtank cheap and get it shipped over to the uk by the same company?
any info, again would be greatly appreciated!

canada salts the roads very heavily in the winter, I'm surprised that the eagle vision I drive only has 1 major rust spot on the tailgate in just over 10 years of daily driving. That car is a great car... too bad crysler had so little to do with the mechanics :P Thanks to Mitsu for that one
I drive a handmedown 93 eagle vision.
great car but I'm afraid the auto tranny is starting to die on it... there's a bit of a pop or thud sometimes when I step on the gas in drive from a stop or slow roll and a definite pop or thud most of the time I step on the gas to back up.
mebbe I can get some help on a new car from the family if this dies on me, tho I don't think it'll happen.
It's the only good car chrysler made :P and the irony is that the engine and most of the hidden bits are from mitsubishi

p.s. gc8 is actually a chassi code for the 98-01(??) with an ej20 (2ltr. turbo) so in all reality we never had the gc8 here. the current wrx is the gda. i think there is a list of codes on this site somewhere. try a search for it.
my bad, I forgot about the talon, neat little car... lots of canucks up here use the tsi as a rally car in production classes, tho it's age is showing cause a lot of them are starting to disappear cause of lack of parts and those teams just can't afford the upkeep because they're not really sponsored up the nuts like the open class teams.

G= Impreza
C= Sedan
8= EJ20
But since we never got that RS owners that own the old style either own a:
G= Impreza
M= Coupe
6= EJ25
or a
G= Impreza
C= Sedan
6= EJ25
So now you know. The reason we never got the old style impreza I believe is the ripple effect. Subaru had no market or so they thought for a performance car. So they spent their time touting AWD for utility and capitalizing on their crossover market (SUV/Wagon, SUV/Sedan, etc etc). By the time the recession/oil embargo that killed the old japanese supercar war was over and performance aftermarket had finally started to come around stateside it was later in the GC8 model lifespan. The 2.5RS came out for subaru executives to test the waters and see if there was anybody who wanted the kind of car they were making overseas. As they found out we did want it and after seeing websites like I-club and tuners embracing the RS trying to accomplish what subaru did not bring they made the decision to bring the WRX. Unfortunately or fortunately by the time they made this decision it was I'd say about 2000. The impreza was slated for a redesign. So they opted to wait until the redesign and then bring the WRX over to US shores. Now the second redesign was for a different reason. The bugeye WRX which was embraced by Turbo Powered subaru enthusiasts and the general import crowd stateside had been offered for years in more potent and much better looking versions in other countries as i'm sure you all know. The Bugeye look which was accepted in america went over like a fart in church in places like Britan and Australia, who thought the car was... well ugly. And why buy a newer ugly version of what you already have? So it is the belief of this author that Subaru's second redesign served to try and regain the appeal of buyers in other countries as well as the critics stateside, as well as giving them an opportunity to stiffen the chasis and improve their aero package for racing. I think the overseas market and their problems with the look are the only thing that could justify such a fast redesign of a car that was sold like crazy in the states.
Or at least thats how I see it.....

I found the coincidence that they switched to the sedan motif just as they brought the wrx into north america somewhat suspicious.
I mean the coupes from what I'm seeing in WRC are the ones that seem to be consistently doing well, except for this year Solberg just seems to be a madman with little fear of death taking that bigfoot of a car to the top 3 in the points.
I think we got the bugeyed sedan because subaru thought that a 4 door car would be more practical and would sell BETTER than a coupe in big boat car country US of A. I don't think there'd be as many bugeyed rexes on the road now if they brought a coupe over instead of a sedan. Sure most of you guys would've gotten a WRX coupe, but how many of those small family dads or moms would like a car that can haul ***, kids AND groceries?
I've read in several places that the buggered version was made to look LESS aggressive than it's predecessor so people wouldn't be as intimidated to buy something like that. I mean I can see the sense in that... that hood scoop on the 04 STI is just massive and you really CAN fit a baby in it.

The coupe was phased out before the WRX even came over. Probably for the reasons listed above. However in american import culture no matter what car it is sedans are regarded as grocery getters... (not by myself since the 4 door evo is still nice and desirable to me but in the widespread superstreet/honda crowd mentaity sense) So subaru is not bringing a coupe to compliment the sedan and wagon left a chunk of sales untouched. Fine by me, it only brings exclusivity to my GM6, the last of the coupes made in america so far... And as for the last part, anything that makes a car less aggressive in my book is retarded. Let the soccer moms and daddy day cares get an outback if the GC8 style scared them that much, but hey multi level marketing and besides it's all history. I'm just glad I got the 'aggressive' one and not the neon
