Ak impreza build thread

Okay so I will start a build thread for my 07 2.5i impreza wagon, this will be ongoing so I will update as I get things done. If this is posted in the wrong place please move it and let me know.

Okay to date I have gotten a few things done, some for performance gains and other for my pleasure if you will. I have not been doing any of this to make huge gains or try to be the fastest thing on the street. Yes I know it is not a wrx and yes I know I should have bought a wrx or an engine swap. So okay that is now out of the way.

I was able to get this car at a screaming deal, the best deal I've ever had so far. Now to be honest when I got this car, it was for my wife. But that soon changed... Hehehe. As I drove it I slowly fell in love with it, and a vision started to form in my head. I started to talking with my local Motorhead friends, and a plan was born. My ultimate goal is to do auto x with it, with the local group that is.

So to start I pulled; both cats, and straight piped it, then I deleted the egr system, removed the second o2 sensor and put a wide band o2 sensor in. Then I drove it over to a local tuner P3 imports. Where he did a custom tune to it, and made a difference on the take off of the car. Plus It got me a small boast in mpg, and every little bit helps when it comes to that.

I had planned to do the muffler myself, but I recently had surgery, so I could not. So Mike over at Quality Muffler did the install, for me. While installing a Magnaflow muffler for me, he also deleted the resonator. He did an AWESOME job, I could not be happier with how it went. The car has an awesome growl during take off and a very clean rumble the whole time.

I had been planning to do the cams next, but I now think I'm going to skip them for a little while. My new plan is to start on the parts that keep me glued to the ground. I'm going to start with doing the sway bars I think, as my car has really bad body roll. Unless you all can recommend a better place to start. After that I think I'm going to put in the cross braces, as I have heard that make a big difference in tighten up the body.

As far as the inside is concerned, I have not gotten very far. I have built a custom fiberglass sub box, that has a Rockford 12" in it. As I type this I am build fiberglass door pods for the rear passenger doors. They will hold Rockford 6.5", to replace those little crappy cheap speakers we get. I also removed all the green from the gauges and I am waiting for the blue LEDs to come in.

So there you go, you are all now up to date on what I have gotten done. So please let me know what you all think, and try to be kind. I'm still hurting from all the flaming and hatred from the NASIOC site. If you would like to see pics let me know and I will post some. Thanks for looking, and I will continue to post details as I continue the build.

Thanks

Mike L.

Starting to get a little worried about the door speaker pods. I did not want to cut the door, so they will sit on the door panel.

Okay here are a couple before pictures, you can see the plate I made for the egr valve delete. Then I used some 10.5 oil plugs to seal up the egr system. The next set you can see the new injen cai.

So yesterday I installed the poor mans air/oil seperator. I went to sears and bought an air water separator for an air compressor. I used clear tubing so I could see the stuff in the line.

Well today I got all new speakers for the car. Now It is Rockford Fosgate all the way around. The door speakers are all 5 1/2 full range. Man these speakers sound awesome, may not have been cheap, but they are worth their money. I plan on amping them in the future, just need to get the budget back up.

Well I am getting ready for the next big project. I am going to turbo charge my NA motor. Now I am not going to just bolt on the a turbo and call it good. I will be pulling the engine, and tearing it down. I will be putting STI rods, and forged pistons. I'm thinking about lowering the comp. down to 9.5 or 8.5 or so. I will be keeping my heads as they are SHC and my understanding is that they flow really, or enough for my build. Swapping for STI injectors and a aftermarket fuel pump.I will be a using a top mount itercooler, since the front mount ones cause more boast lag. I am also upgrading the oil pump to that of an STI one, and will also be adding in the STI oil cooler in.

I would love to hear everyones input so please feel free to share. Just try and refrain from giving me the whole sell and buy a wrx or any of that jazz.

Well the engine is out of the car, and torn down. The short block is at the machine shop. Having forged pistons and STI rods put in. Cannot wait to get it back, so I can reassemble it. Then it will be off to the tuner.

Well for an update, we had a little bit of a slow down with the build. The machinist was out sick for awhile, so he was running behind. Top that off with not being able to find any 9.5 100mm forged pistons. So I decided to go with 8.5 100mm instead, I also second day aired them. I am so ready to get this project warped up. I really want to see what she can do.
