Need camera heads opinions please
So...let's just cut to the chase. I'm wondering if this is a good deal or not;

Or, should I just get a Nikon D50 with the kit lens; 18-55mm?
Give me your opinion and let the debate begin!

wow, it's been a long day...I posted this crap in the classifieds...[please move to the Bay Area regional forum, thanks...
check out, amazon.
Nikon D40 kit with the 15-55mm lens, plus a 55-200 vr nikon lens with a strap, and a uv filter for about ~590 (due to a $100 off promotion nikon is running when you buy a d40 kit and a 55-200 vr lens, look at their website, there are other combos too) shipped, no tax...btw, you see the final price at the final review page, the price in the cart is not accurate.
honestly, I'm not convinced by the D40 yet, I almost pulled the trigger on the deal above because it's a killer price. However, it seems that the Rebel XTi might edge over it just enough...I like both Canon and Nikon, I think there is just a larger support base for canon for accessories, lenses and and such...so I'm still deciding...would love to read additional opinions about this...

I would love to pick up the D300, but I only want to spend ~500 right now. I thought about picking up an used D200, since the D300 is out, but no can do. Idk about the D40X, isn't that pretty much the same as the D40, except more megapixels? Correct me if I'm wrong though. Also, I thought you said you like your D50, what happened?
d40x have miniscule differences, iso100, 10mp instead of 6.1mp, there was one or two more small differences I couldn't figure out but not worth the step up in cost imho. I think I would go XTi if I was getting d40x. Isn't the d50 a slightly older model in some ways not as good as some of the entry level new slr's?
