Why not carpool camera? but only red light camera?

If they set up carpool cameras, wouldn't the government earn a lot more than just catching people who speed and run "to-be red" light?
I have been commuting for 2 weeks from san jose to castro vally now, and I see plenty of cars with only the driver, and no passengers. And cops never catch them.
Just wondering why don't they set up such cameras?

for one, theres no proof that there isnt a baby seat in the back...so theyd have to set up a bunch of cameras at different angles.

and two...you own a fast car...so youre saying you never use the carpool lane to pass groups of lemmings going 60 mph with no one in front of them? you'd just end up getting yourself and everyone here in trouble!

let the 1 driver cars use the car pool lane so THEY get pulled over...i use it for 20 seconds at a time and i dont want to be the only one violating that law.

Because a carpool camera doesn't catch the baby in the back seat.

right...there would be so many arguements of people sayin they had a child in the back seat.

plus red light cameras automatically take the picture if the sensors pick up an object flying at a speed unsafe to stop...then it signals the camera to take a pic i guess.

a carpool camera would require a human to take the picture...unless you set it up to take a pic of EVERY car that went by...which then would need a human to sift thru all the photos to find a violator, like 10,000 pics a day which is like a full time job for 3 people per hwy, which would be a waste of money.

Kyle, I think he means DURING car pool hours. The Fast lane =/= car pool lane.

When it hits carpool hours and I'm by myself, I'm out of that lane so fast... I'm not about to be dealt a $270+ ticket. I know people who have been given tickets just for going in to the lane to avoid an accident.

ok...so 1000 pics to sift thru...either way it wouldnt work

they would have speeding cameras before carpool cameras which some HWYs actually have

ive used that lane for years during carpool time, people that get tickets for that are noobs and dont know the freeway/CHP hiding spots well enough and deserve it

Using the carpool lane to pass people is like using the car pool lane. What's the difference between going on the car pool lane all the time and going on it on and off to pass people. Car pool lane is made so they promote car pooling, hence the name. I hate seeing people in the car pool lane that violates the rules. I'm stuck in traffic and I see *******s(not referring to you) using that lane and I'm thikning to myself they better get caught.

If you're using it once or twice during your commute, thats another story I guess, but it's not often enough you encounter a slow guy in the 2nd to fastest lane to warrant that unless you're going over the speed limit. AND you could always just tail and flash your lights until they move out of the way. I think a camera that deals with those problems you described would be a great idea. Violators really need to get punished, but like speeding, too many people do it and they can't ticket every speeder out there. Anyways, car pool violators don't really put immediate dangers to others. They bother me, but I wouldn't want the government to spend our tax dollars on something like that, there are more important things to take care of first.

why not just put up speed cameras for the rest of the lanes too then? I know I love to drive exactly 65 at all times....

i sure do wish the flash and honk worked. the problem usually is the person not paying attention in the first place, so flashing does not work. Then there is the asshat that thinks he/she is right driving next to the car in the lane to the right...

people need to wake up

Can you imagine how many tickets it would take to cover the cost of installing and operating all of those cameras? It's so not worth the trouble.

If you're using the carpool lane with no one else in the car, you're not puting anyone at risk or driving hazordously.... you're just and a-hole.

That being said, I have no problem using it to pass people. It's still a passing lane in my eyes. Not that 95% of the drivers here know what a passing lane is or why the get tailgated for crusing 60mph in a passing lane.

i think if they only snaps some pictures in only a certain distance, during half an hour everyday, they will still catch a lot of guys. But I guess it takes a lot of people to review all the pictures that they take every week.

Anyway, it was just an idea that I came up with while being stuck in traffic for the past 2 weeks.
