MISSION: Get my bug eye back on the road.

looking for a 5mt with all functional gears/functional diff. Few grinds as possible please. I need it to hold me over until my 2010 tax return at which time i plan on doing a swap to something better or at least a full transmission rebuild.

When it rains....... it pours..
At the same time as I'm doing my turbo, tmic, inlet, exhaust, retune,(EXPENSIVE) my daughter is being born,(EXPENSIVE) then i get diagnosed with melanoma. (MOST EXPENSIVE SO FAR) Then my autostart malfunctions, and costs me a big deductible to repair another car. (EXPENSIVE)I found out due to a clause, my car will not be covered.(FACEPALM EXPENSIVE) There is 1500 bucks cosmetic/paint damage to my car. Combine all these expenses together all within the same 2 month period and I'm at a pretty high level of stress.

AND NOW....

Today on the way in to work in normal traffic my 1st gear let go. I heard a crunch and then rev slipped high. I thought for a second that my clutch was toast but 2nd gear worked fine. I put it back in 1st at the next stop and heard nothing but a grinding horrible noise. I'm ready for this crap to stop now. This is another few grand I just simply don't have right now. Anybody have a 5MT layin around?

Bump

it might be cheaper to just to replace 1st gear and put new syncros in. But depending on the damage you might have to replace more. I got a price list for Hareed the other week he might still have you can check out. Or if he fixes his trans soon you can buy mine for cheap...

I wish it was that easy. My transmission has 203k miles so it needs synchros as well as the gear

Methinks hold out on a 6sp or you'll just pop another 5sp, especially if you just went with a bigger turbo! Anywho good luck in your endeavors John.

paul at dbtuned usually has some lying around...he also does prebuilt core swaps...you put a down payment, he builds it, then when its ready, you drive up and get it swapped in the same day...

you can get 2009 wrx gears like i did, supposedly good for 300hp setups

I may have a complete 6mt swap available; brakes, tranny, etc.

Yeah that's what I said, gear and syncros, syncros are like $200 or $250, and the gear will be like $100 or $150 I can't remember off the top of my head. We can tear it apart ourselves, and I can get the hook up for the right tools from Subaru to switch the gears and someone to help us do it. Let me know if you want to go that route and I'll see what I can get going on my end.

Unfortunately there is no way I can afford a 6mt at this time. The goal is to swap a used 5mt for now. Condition wise a synchro crunch is ok as long as all gears work just to hold me over until tax season is here when I will have a few grand to throw at it. If you like, PM me the specs and price on your swap and we'll see if it's still around by then. With labor it seems like a 6mt is a 6 grand job. I don't have that at this time. Life intervenes.

It's funny how lack of funds makes "holding out" a much better option. I do well with money management. I'm staying afloat but barely. If I wasn't prepared for emergency right now I'd have thousands in debt. What I'm learning though is you can plan to prepare for accidents, illness, unexpected expense, etc.. But if it all hits at once, the money isn't the problem. It's the stress. With melanoma its like well why am I even trying to do this if i'm just gonna die anyways... New born baby just makes mortality that much more present and confusing. The autostart malfunction adds insult to injury. Literally. The transmission letting go, well a blouch 18g-XT@19psi on a 5mt with 200k miles on... I expected as much. I just didn't expect it to be now. I need a few months of nothingness to have everything settle down and recuperate. The bright side is, my daughter is healthy and beautiful, melanoma may hurt and will be expensive but probably won't kill me, I pay my deductible and the accident goes away, I save a bit of cash and repaint my front end and that cosmetic damage goes away, I excersize a bit of patience on this transmission thing, and with the help of my friends, I swap in a bandaid 5mt and then at tax season I either do a built 5mt or a full 6 speed swap.
