Smile WRX with "gapping" problem

Just got a 2002 wrx and already having some problems. Sometimes everything works fine and it is a blast to drive, however sometimes when the turbo kicks in and i reach about 5000rpm the car feels like the engine is starved and begins "bucking". CEL comes on about every two weeks and keep saying the same thing " EVAP PURGE SOLENOID VALVE". Can this cause the engine to "gap" when i reach certain rpms or could there be another reason? Every input will be welcomed!

My first uneducated guess is fuel filter, fuel pump, or dirty air filter. Is it modded in any way? if so is it tuned for the mods?
