Biggest Speeding Ticket Ever?

How about reading some reviews.. the 8500 killed the Valentine 1 for KA detection, which is what Highway Patrol use. Its VERY hard to detect accurately with normal detectors. The V1 is over 10 years old now, it sucks....

???
Any idea what the MA State Troopers use for radar/laser bands? Laser, X, K, Ka? I've donated a good amount of money over the past few years to Troop E on the turnpike, and would like to know what I'm up against (not needed: extra comments and/or advice about actually driving the speed limit to avoid tickets)

Ok. I deserved that. Generally (and I know I'm not the only one who drives this way) I am the fastest thing moving on the highway - not always, and this is not an ego thing, it's just that most people don't travel at high speeds for long distances. I'm good at spotting the prowlers behind me, but I still get jumpy driving in daylight with speed traps out there.
Urban Legend check - can the police set up stationary speed traps at night? I've heard it is illegal, but not from any particular source.

Most recent test I could find - Feb. 02, Car & Driver test - Valentine 1 trounced the 8500. Test results are one thing - anyone out there had both recently and noticed the difference? I know C&D have been Valentine sweethearts for years, so they may be biased.

The wonders of the valentine is that if you bought a model 10 years ago, its basically the same as the current one, except for the upgrades that they did to the unit, which you can buy seperatly if you have an older unit. You buy the 8500 and as soon as the 8600 comes out, your model is outdated. With the V1 you just buy the part they changed, and switch it into your V1.

and also, i know what you mean about being the fastest moving thing on the highway, its not that i race other cars, its just that i have trouble going 65 when i can easily go 80-85 well within my limits of car control. it just feels like i am going so slow at 65 or better yet, 55

First off, here is a review with actual numbers on how both detectors performed. http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=1064
Secondly,.. Any time there is an update available to your 8500 all you do is send it in to Escort for a firmware reflash. There is no such option with the V1., and yes, there has been no performance updates to the V1 in 10 years, it detects just like it did when it was released.

They havent been fighting for years because the 8500 is fairly new. I for one wanted the best detector I could buy so I spent a fair amount of time researching and reading reviews and what I found makes me think its no contest for which is a better choice. The only test the V1 beats the 8500 is straightaway unfiltered X band which hasnt been used by law enforcement in years. One thing nice about the V1 is the multi directional display, which tells u where the threat is from. If you KNEW that you were NEVER going to drive somewhere where KA band is used and you like the direction locator feature then you might chose the V1. But that is not a reality. KA is very hard to detect for most detectors, the 8500 beat the v1 at KA detection by miles. Oh and btw, its cheaper......
