What I mean is this...

Same car. Same dyno.

untuned
tuned with stock manifold
tuned with EL
tuned with UEL

until I see that all the numbers are worthless.

That car isn't stock and that's a HUGE boost difference... 13-20... that alone is going to give you the gains regardless of what header you have. UEL headers are going to get you gains in spool hp/trq just like EL... the difference is minimal in most cases.

When you start talking about huge turbos and 500 and up wheel hp and 20-30psi boost. That's when you'll start to notice a difference.

For most people 5 or whp really isn't that big of a difference. That's what we're talking about in reality here.

We can agree to disagree. There is a lot of facts and data out there that proves EL give more then just 5hp Ray. He jumped from 13 psi to 20psi because of the headers allowing him to spool the turbo in a lower rpm area while also adding a tiny bit of timing.

Obviously we can't dyno on the samething because he's half way across the country. Ask any of the local tuners EQ & GST they'll tell you EL's provide more then 5hp lol. You do know that in Japan they come with EL headers for a reason right? I know you've been around the block but perhaps you aren't up to date on what the newer Wrx/STi are making these days with headers on the VF52/48? Have a look at iwsti and nasioc. Not trying to argue but just trying to help Brendan and whoever owns a 11+ WRX/STi wondering about headers. The facts are in that thread and the one from Topspeed.

wasn't trying to argue.

Never said he wouldn't see gains. He will. In his case... cheap part... getting tuned anyways. Go for it.

And I never said that he'd only gain 5hp with el. What I said was from equal to unequal...

My point is that the differences between say a perrin equal and a perrin unequal aren't as huge as you/meaning the interwebs think it is. In cars at this level I'd put money on it being in the 5-12 range. That's it.

But hell... what do I know. I'm no tuner and I only have a port polished and coated set up on my car...

I just flat out cant stand the sound of EL Headers, I like my rumble way to much. Even if you do gain 10-20 whp/wtq or whatever. I miss the way my car sounded with headers and fully catless. Sounded like the turbo was mounted in the passenger seat LOL

Yeah... me too. Lots of people hate it but I love it. People know my car. My coworkers can hear me down the block. LOL! Hell my buddies dog knows I'm coming before I get anywhere near his house. haaa.

That's why I said what I said about the performance and the goals. It's honestly really not that much gain going from UEL to EL in most applications. All of ours included. Going from stock to either of them is where the big gains come in. So if you can choose... I'd choose UEL because I like the sound and the gains are minimal. If you are coming up on a deal and you can't choose... take what you can get because the gains are there. I like my set up. With the cat less up, lightened flywheel and my header set up my first gear spool up is pretty gnar. LOL.

Preference is what it comes down to unless you're goals are just the most power you can possibly get period. But in that case there are a lot of other weak spots. LOL.

Ug... gonna be a long weekend.

Tomorrow I work all day. Then my cousin's are coming in to town and we're gonna go to a show in SC. Then I'll cook em breakfast and kick them out of the house. Then I have to go to a couple Granite stores in Gilroy. Then drive to Aptos and bug my cabinet guy to come down and let me look at some caesar stone samples. Then go look for a sink. Then go to my dad's bday bbq and hang with the the family. My sister coming out with her 3 munchkins.

Then the kicker... Contractors start on Monday so I have to be done with my demo on sunday. Means I'll probably be in my house flying solo all day sunday breaking ****. Gotta finish ripping the floor out of the family room. Then cut the subfloor out. Then remove the staples from the whole house floor... HUNDREDS! The pull base board in a couple rooms. Decide if I'm going to fill up a whole in the wall which means I have to drag a mattress all over the house. Then possibly remove a few light fixtures and a couple more window coverings. Long friggin day rocking that solo. Gonna buy myself some beef jerky, a 12 pack of Lagunitas and just go to it. Should be able to finish it all in one day. Woot!

Be so stoked when this demo is done for a few weeks. Taking up every waking moment I have right now figuring this isht out.

So far....

Gutted the kitchen.
Removed 2 walls
Removed the floor in the kitchen
Cut a piece of wall out to fix a pipe leak
ripped out some doors
carpet is out of the house
window coverings are torn out
removed 2 huge *** hutches

**** ton!

I have a feeling that if something is wrong its going to take longer than a day to fix it
