Than lets meet up at 8am. We can leave by 830am and stage and wait for the caravan. We should be at the staging place by 9, and the caravan should be right behind us.
No prob, amigo. I just didn't want y'all to miss them either. That's why I suggested spots other than off Redwood as well as an earlier meetup time.

One of these days, I'll try to make it out to one of your monthly drives. My last suggestion would be to PM a mod to ask if they could update the Original Post (OP) whenever y'all set up your monthly drive or meetup. But if the thread starter (AKA subymobbin303) is still active and regularly attends these, just have him update it w/ the most current.

Subiemobbing303 is probably an inactive member. Ive never met him at any of our events/meets.

I have 4 motorola's now, 2 have 27 mi. range, 2 have 35 mi. range
Now that I'm paying attention to radios I kind of want ones with better antennas, annoying that these aren't swappable...

Anyone know how much a good antenna will boost reception on an FRS/GMRS radio?

So I just took a look at the frequencies that FRS/GMRS uses and it falls under the UHF frequency range. UHF is a line-of-sight range meaning the antennas need to see each other to communicate. That's why people tend to use Ham/CB radios. They use the HF frequency range which propagates radio waves by bouncing them around, giving greater range at a cost of reduced voice quality (like AM radio).

The Motorola radios you currently possess user the VHF range which can slightly bend radio waves to over the horizon, giving better range than UHF.

I can go on and on about this, cause this is my job, communications. Let me know if you have more questions.

By the way a good antenna can run anywhere from $50 to several hundred. Or do what my co-workers did and make your own quarter or half-wave antenna.

Chris

Thanks! Not bad for spur of the moment with dirty cars huh? Now that I got the morettes and new grille, and just picked up new tires today for my OZ UltraLeggers we need to do another shoot. Mickael said hes in for the next shoot too.

When I get back from Virginia Ill see about scheduling an actual date for a legit shoot. That way anyone who wants to show can wash their whip prior to.

Would any of you North Bay folk be interested?
