power mods for Outback
I have a 1999 Outback Wagon (not the Sport/Impressa). It of course has a 2.5L engine and an automatic transmission. I got a great deal on it because it revs between 2nd and 3rd gear when cold and it has a main bearing thats noisy. Totally drivable for the last 10 months (18K miles) though.
I have money to spend now. I can get an engine and tranny from a "used japanese engines importer" for about $2200+shipping.
BUT... these cars aren't real quick. I'd really like to be over 200HP. More is always better!
I'd also like to tow a small trailer (two dirt bikes).
What are my options? I haven't seen many that are cheap.
I'm in a unique position of having to replace the engine and transmission anyway. (or atleast do major work to them) My budget is somewhere between $3-5K.
Thanks for any input.
