Engine swaps for 90 Legacy S/W
Already searched but came up with nothing.
What can I swap in a 1990 Legacy Wagon? Looking to keep the auto trans for the wife.
Will the motor and tranny from a newer legacy fit?

u can swap in alot. just depends on how much power you want. any ej engine can fit in it. my dad put in a version 2 WRX STi engine in his 1990 legacy ls wagon and it directly bolted in. here's a link to some pics. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/350328

To quote my local shop,"subarus are like Legos."
Pretty much any modern EJ-series motor (that's Legacy and Impreza motors from the start of each respective line) will physically bolt in, as will any tranny. You may need a new driveshaft, you need to make sure the diffs match up, andnon-LSD rear axles don't usually fit in LSD rear ends, but other than that it's just wiring. If you have an OBD1 car, an OBD2 motor will be a royal pain, and vice versa. In some states, you might be able to run aftermarket engine management legally, but I'm in CA, and the motor swapped in must be the same age or newer than the chassis, and retain all of the emissions equipment from the donor car.....
