Arrow STI's hids... Have some questions

Welp, I am trading my 03' sonic yellow rex for an 05 STI very soon... I have questions on the STI's HIDs... for those that have an STI how do you like them? Are they bright? I am asuming that STI's still have DTRL's... are the HIDS on when the DTRL are on or is it a different bulb? When you flash your HIGHS at night, does that damage the HIDS because they flash off then back on? And lastly is it worth putting the projector fogs in even though it has HIDs or do the HIDs put out so much light that there is no need for the fogs other than looks...

Thanks,
-Nigel

the STi's do not have dtrl. the HID's are very bright- once heated up they turn completely white.(start off bluish) sorry for the lack of spec's- if someone would like to provide them. and as for the high beam the HID's stay on along with the high beam bulb.. not like the wrx.(where one shuts off like the fogs)

driving my wife's wrx makes me feel like her bulbs are going out- in fact they are normal.. i am just used to having brighter lights. its like jumping from one room with long fluorescent bulbs to a room with a 75 watt bulb.

i have no complaints- my eyes love em.

The need or wanting of fogs depends on how dark some of the areas are you drive. Where I used to live when going up to the mountain you wanted as much light as possible so you could see animals and it would get foggy. And I agree with gdogg I think they are bright enough for normal driving. But the JDM fogs look really good..

Can you get projector hids for the 05' STI? I know Morette makes new headlights but last I looked they were not projectors for the 04'-05' wrx/sti... I was always under the impression with projectors you have a better focus of light and nice cut off pattern than reflectors...

Last question what is the rating on the stock HIDS... 4300, 4600..?

Thanks :-)

Jesus, do you guys need it to be daytime 24hrs? The STi's HID's are incredibly briter compared to the WRX's. I have had no problem with there not being enough light coming from the HID's. When I drive my GN after being used to the Subie it seems like I am only using my parking lights. For your question about the fogs. The lights on the STi are adjustable, so you can aim them downward in foggy conditions, so that you are not blinded. I personally hate the USDM fogs. If you really want fogs. You should buy the car w/o fogs, then order some JDM fogs (they are big, like the bug-eyes fogs). The only downside with JDM, is you have to use a JDM front bumper too. Here are the big fogs.

Not true, you have to either notch your bumper beam or use the JDM bumper beam.

I've seen them in person, they look SOOOO hawt!

Good to know about the HIDS! Thanks :-)

Question about the JDM fogs... how much light do they throw down? And when you buy the fogs do they come with everything, like the switch, power cables from switch to lights..etc?

Now about the leveling switch, is it dramatic enough to where you don't even need the brights... for example, if it's really dark on a long road, can you turn the hids up so that they are pointing more upwards or is it better to just use the brights with the HIDS?

I know matt had a pic of his rex with jdm projectors and hids which showed the light output and was easily judged to see how much light output there was... is there any pics of STI's hids IE, from the side of the car or from inside the car and seeing the light output that way?

Thanks again :-)

I'd have to say no.

With the leveling switch at its highest position, the light is barely high enough, IMHO.

Any of the lower settings only lower it to help with fog, etc.

I wish the leveling switch allowed you to raise it up a tad higher though!

The STi actually has connections for fogs behind where they would sit on a WRX. Gruppe-S has them for sale, and JDM bumpers. When the brights are on, the HIDs are on also.
