No harsh chemicals, it'll fade the tint film.

No chemicals, especially ammonia-based stuff like Windex. Ammonia will penetrate the film and cause the film to lose adhesion to the glass. Very mild solution of detergent, if anything. It's hard to find detergent that doesn't contain perfumes and other impurities that may leave a haze.

Some film is more scratch-resistant than others but you might try a very soft cloth that has been through many machine washings. I saw something in the Griot's mail order catalog that says they carry 100% cotton terry cloths for final polishing of car finishes because any polyester fibers will scratch the finish. The same may hold true for window film.

I use Stoner Invisible Glass, you can get it at Kragen. Its sprays on and is safe for tinted windows, wipe it off with newspaper. Gets my windows clean inside and out every time.

I would suggest using something else other than newspaper as it might scratch up the film.

Actually newspaper works great for windows. I use it all the time. Ammonia-Free Windex and old newspaper keeps my windows clean. Doing it for over 2 years, and many people still think that my tint looks smoke agent and not film. Also, a while ago someone told me that the ink on the newspaper is supposed to help, though I forgot in what way...

I think I was told that you should only use water on your tint.

The only thing is to NEVER use ammonia based chemicals (IE regular windex), Stoners invisable glass and the overpriced aerosol products they sell at the tint shop are ammonia free. Ammonia is really bad for tint, and if used frequently it would turn the tint purple.. in fact some tint shop use ammonia to REMOVE tint.

Using newspaper is a old detailer's trick.. Newspaper is made of a clean cotton fiber and it does a really good job of cleaning glass without leaving streaks.. also its cheap, so once you're done you can throw it away so you dont redeposit any oil/dirt onto the glass.
