Interesting... could this be because of a new battery?
Well my OEM battery was about to kick the bucket due to a couple full drains in the past and it started a leak.
Anyway, I installed an Optima 34 red top battery which wasn't a direct fit. I had to re-do all my wiring, grounds etc so i decided to go with thicker gauge wiring and better connectors and brass terminals. I also ran all of my hyperground grounding kit wires to a sperate (-) gold side terminal. After all was said and done my car feels A LOT smoother and i even noticed my RPMS dropped from 325O@80MPH TO ABOUT 3050-3100@80MPH... keeping into consideration i used cruise control on both attempts on an even surface.
All i changed was the battery...the grounding mod was there before. could think be becasue of better/more powerful electrical flow with the optima
anyone else experience phenomena?

How could a battery not be a direct fit, other than physically? Maybe your are getting cleaner/stronger current and ground with the optima. *shrug*
As far as having a lower RPM at the same MPH.. hmmm... well, think about this. One turn of your crankshaft amounts to a given number of physical turn of your gears and then your diffs and then your wheels. The only thing that changes RPM per MPH is changing a ratio within your drivetrain.

This is a very far fetched theory but: Do you have a lot of accessories on your car? At that high of speeds, your ignition system would be running off of your altenator. If you have a lot of accessories, that causes your car to require more amps than your alt. puts out, so your battery starts do drain. With your old "bad" battery, your system might be maxing out its available power thus affecting your ignition system. The new battery might provide the extra power to run everything smoothly.---- Hey its possible
