Thank you!, Turn WRX. I had one of those valves on my Mazda RX7, many years ago. I'd forgotten. The new valve, with the nipple, will allow me to put a short hose, and drain it easier, perhaps without removing the lower engine cover. I note the advice NOT to get the nipple model in low clearance cars. Does my standare hight WRX have enough room? Will the valve protrude below the lower enging cover?

Yet another problem. I noted a lot of oil drained out around the filter, after I'd drained the oil pan, with the filler cap off. I would estimate nearly half a quart. On my old 2.5RS, it was about 1/2 ounce. If anyone knows a clever product to be able to drain off that trapped oil around the filter, without either removing the lower cover, OR, dumping a lot of the oil on to the lower cover, (making me wish I'd removed it prior to the oil and filter change), I would be equally grateful.

I don't have a lift, so jacking up the car, and removing the cover before each oil and filter change is an exercise in frustration. Arrrggghhh!!!

So once again, I eagerly await advice. Thanks, Ed

Ed, I dont know of a tool (other than a pump) to get the oil out of the filter. But subymods (I think thats how its spelled) recomends just cutting a hole in the plastic where the oil filter is.. its sunken in the engine bay far enough that it will not be affected, and it makes oil changes a lot easier.

Choice of oil for '07 WRX

At 3K miles, I called the dealer and asked them how many oil changes with conventiona oil, during the "break-in" period should I do, before changing to synthetic. They replied "Don't use the synthetic, we have seen troubles with the turbo with the synthetic oil."

In the owners manual, they state that "You can use synthetic oil that meets the same requirements as the conventional oil."

I have looked through some of the other forums, and have NOT seen any reports describing turbo problems, attributed to the use of synthetics. In all my cars, I have changed Mobil 1 every 3000 miles(I know, I know, overkill!).

I'm not sure why the service advisor gave me the "no synthetics" warning.
Anyone hearing similar advice? Thanks, Ed

I'm using full synthetic rotella-t 5-40 in my NA 2.5l 97 Legacy. Be careful about the synthetic and the rocker cover gaskets, they will leak, so, keep an eye on it, and when you start to see the leak, change them.

When you switch, run the conventional synthetic mix first, then switch to synthetic. I hear it makes the transition on the engine better.
