200 miles to go here

I think the rest of the STi folks have hit 1K or just able ready to. I've started to dip above 4K RPMs ever so slightly. By early next week I should break 1K. Even driving it below 4K RPMs I've been very happy and figure it can only get better.

Sunday is Auto-X. It's definitely going to go over 4k rpm there, so might I suggest a long drive tomorrow?

I think the low torque really wets your appetite, it does seem to flatten out a bit after about 5.5k or so, but no complaints. I havent really found nice open road to really open it up. Got to run through 2nd and 3rd all the way to redline and that was pretty fun. Gear changes are abrupt, but they are meant to be solid and they certainly are. Would still like a bit less throw, maybe 25% shorter shifts would be nice. Like the KB was on the old rex.

No complaints tho. Had a scare today tho. Pulling into a steep driveway thought I tore part of the front lip off or atleast gouged it, but it was just the rear wheel going off the ground and making a horrendous noise as I got on the throttle a bit. Not so thrilled about low-speed tight turns, but what can ya do.

Also checked out Tantalus today. WOW! Never seen turns that sharp in my life. 10mph turns at about 25-30 is pretty fun. Not the smoothest road tho and hard to see any oncoming traffic. Had a nice headon meeting with a minivan at the one-lane bridge. Would have been nice to know about that one. Round Top is pretty insane too, about 1.5 lanes wide and the same types of turns. Wow.

Fun tho.

thanks for the update!!! sounds like all STi owners are in for a blast of a time...now i really can't wait till i get mine next week. it sounds like the torque curve is pretty flat and the shifting is alot more solid than in the previous wrxes which is all good news to me.

13.6 is definitely respectable but i thought STi's having 30 more hp then the Evo's would have at least 13 flat to 13.4 times cause the evos were doing about 13.5 average run at the drag strip...could it be that the STi's are not completely broken in yet??

Nope everyone just runs way slower in Hawaii...could be from the heat, humidity, and our track blows.

Car Info: STI
So I finally passed that magical 1k mile point at the end of last week so I had a little fun over the weekend. The power is there but I was a little disappointed above 6k. I didnt really notice a change in sound or power like some have said, and it did seem a little flat to me. But believe me.....the revs climb quickly and so do triple digit speeds. The shift light/buzzer (well it really just beeps) isnt much help unless you set it around 5.5k because redline comes so quickly.

The car feels solid at high speed.......didnt even realize I was doing 120 on H3.....but hey I was just keeping up with the traffic....it wasn't my fault the traffic was 10-12 streetbikes (Dont think I'm one of those stupid people tearing through traffic because I'M not. This was a rare occassion and it was done RESPONSIBLY! haha)

Any fellow STI owners look closely at their tires lately? Anyone notice many small cuts or nicks? I know the RE070s are of a very soft compound but I wasnt expecting this....and I haven't even taken any turns at speed yet....well except that one on ramp....

I felt the same above 6k or so, just seemed to flatten out. Wasnt that much fun up there so I now just shift about 6k and it feels just as strong. Something to mess with at the track I guess, if I ever get my azz out there...
