Unhappy Still in the breakin period

I'll 300 miles in. Breakin is torture in this car, much like it was in the WRX. It just wants to go. I probably won't hit 1K until mid May. I'm sure Dave is further along.

Im still only about 500 or so, had a couple days I needed to use Blazer so Im slacking. Like Tim said its so hard keeping it below 4k. No complaints for sure (ok aside from the brake dust! J/K). Still just piddling around the island.

Tim did you say your shift light indicator made noise?! WTF?! How do you do that. Mine just shows the light at 3k where I have it set. Oh and my manual has NOTHING about STi features. I really want to know about DCCD, can you set at any speed, should you be stopped, should you be moving. Stuff like that. If you have that there lemme know.

Do not set the DCCD when the tires are spinning. thats what it says in the manual...i think they meaning (traction loss) not moving.

yes the break in period is just about impossible....you cant keep the car under 4k...the rpms get up so fast.....I find myself in 6th going like 40-50 mph. just so that i dont have an urge to speed.

After I took my car back to the dealership for some protection package and fabric plan...it started to make some strange suppension noise from the back rear driver side...its a loud clanging noise. sounds like the spring or something is not right. im taking it in tomorrow as soon as they open to see whats wrong.

Does yours make wierd noises when turning at slow speeds? Mine creaks and groans. I mean way way back when we had a Subie Wagon Turbo like in `88 and it did it, but that was before I thought they got better about AWD. Just wierd. Didnt think it would do that, the rex never did. Whenever I turn hard out of driveways Im constantly spinning a tire, probably due to stiffer suspension maybe. Im clueless, but the noises dont thrill me...

Dave,
As mentioned you can turn the beep on and off. You can also turn the gauge opening sequence on and off.

snuffyrsx,
Let me know if they find out anything on the clanking noise. When I made a sharp turn one day I heard a similiar noise, but thought it was just the lugwrench in the back moving around (It's sitting next to the jack).

808 STiLYN,
There is a printed antenna on the back window. I haven't check yet, but it should be ready to go for stereo and speakers (wires) with the stereo and speakers being the only thing missing.
You probably won't notice a huge difference with DCCD unless you drive aggressively. If you leave it in auto it basically does the work for you of determining where to put the power. If I understand correctly it can basically go from 50/50 to 35/65 split as needed.
When you switch to manual mode, the top setting (LOCK) is 50/50 and the bottom setting is 35/65.
You should consider coming out for the Solo II test and tune at the end of May. It would give you a chance to drive your car aggressively and test different settings.

Mehlt,

The noise isnt when I turn. Its when I go over bumpy roads...it just started to make that noise after i got it back from Subaru. Im taking it in right now and will find out whats wrong with the car. I got an email with pics of your car the other day....we seem to have the same friends .

whats the break in procedure for the STi??

Do you guys just keep it below 4000rpm till your first 1,000miles and then let hell break loose? Also, do you change your oil after the 1st 1000miles?? just wonderin cause i hear that here are so many different ways of doing a break in.

Okay, so it was probably what I thought it was. Loose stuff rattling around in the back.
Yea, he mentioned you were storing your STi in his garage.

Also vary the RPMs, take it easy on the brakes. I plan to do an oil change after 1K miles. That's what the owners manual recommends.

Actually, it was the rear sway bar bushing. For some reason it worked its way loose and my sway bar was hitting something. I took it back and they fixed it right up and locked everything down tight. its back to its kick *** way.

im going to donns house tomorrow to show larry my car hehehehe.
