Drag racing is for mulletheads. Focus on the days at the track and AutoX.

I think I've told everyone about my franken-diff that I have on my car right now. I've got a Turbo Legacy ring & pinion going back into my differential which, with the power the car makes, supposedly puts the spider gears at risk. I've got a good, strong transmission now (although, for as much as I paid, I feel like I should treat that gently, too, which was not the intent at all)
I miss drag racing. I can't afford to do anything to the car, unless I sell stuff I've got on hand (and no one seems to be buying
) I miss tuning the car and there's a chance I might be a beta tester for some new tuning stuff.
I don't know how much spider gears cost, and I don't know degree of difficulty for replacing them myself or paying to have it done.
I feel like the car has some more .10th's to drop now that I bought the tranny for insurance, but obviously another part of the drivetrain has become a weakness.
I have to say that I would appreciate any responses, but don't be surprised if I'm unable to talk myself into going back down to the dragstrip. I can't even begin to put the trauma of BOTH nights of grenading my trans x 2.
Sometime in the future, I do plan on finding a R180 rear end, but right now, with the lack of funds and the high shipping rates, I don't see it happening.
(I guess I could go down and just launch from 0 rpms.
)

Pat, Ron from Axis referred me to a guy from CA who sells used JDM parts. The guy quoted me the same prices he quoted Ron. (Ron is THE MAN!)
I'm sure he can acquire the part you need. Also, I'm going to meet Luke after 1700hours tomorrow. Please stop by if you can.

I think you'd be safe if you did the zero Rpm launch
. but i know nothing about how strong that rear diff is. So just be careful

Pat, your diff isn't any weaker than it ever was. It's 100% as strong as before. If you weren't worried about breaking it then - you shouldn't be now. Sure it became youre weakest link - but that doesn't mean it's WEAK. I mean Lou Ferrigno's forearms may be HIS weak link - but that sure doesn't make them WEAK in anything but the relative sense of the word.
How many people have you heard of breaking rear diffs?
Just don't go crazy on the launch control and do your thing.
If you've got the pay then why not play? I'll just be jealous, cuz' I ain't got the scrip to hit the strip.

With all that said - if I was in your shoes I'd try to resist the temptation because I wouldn't want to hit a "3rd strike" at the dragstrip.
Break once at the track - shame on the car. Break twice at the track - shame on the tranny. Break thrice at the track - shame on you.

I'm whicha. Silver Satin gave me an idea which might get my butt down to the track again. I've got to do a little research first, though.
I might go tonight to watch the competition. Any urge?
