The STi no doubt will be used as a "status symbol" by some, much like a lot of other cars are, but hopefully most STi owners won't forget their roots. The true test will be when WRXs and STis start pulling up next to each other while driving around. Will the STi drivers just "blow off" the WRX owners or will it be a kewl "thumbs up" encounter both ways??? Of course this could go the other way as well with the WRX owners being the ones with attitude, but hopefully we can all be one big, kick butt, friendly Subaru Impreza community!!!

Hey dtech.
You're really smart. You should be an scientist.
Everything you said was opinion except for the 200 lbs comment. I felt as though you were looking at the comparison from a skewed viewpoint; there's obviously no room for discussion with you.
-No one is saying that it isn't ok to not want the larger hoodscoop. What I was saying was why are you against it when you haven't even tried it yet? (edit: triple negative, I know)
-You take a chance as far as vandalism and theft everytime you buy a new car; an increasing chance when the value of the car increases. So? It's just a car. That's what insurance is for.
Well aren't you smug. I'll be sitting here on my little rock in the sea waiting for you to pm me saying 'I told you so'.
I've bolted on nearly everything to my WRX save better brakes. I'm telling you, the WRX can never make up for the torque of the extra .5 liters, will never have DCCD, and did you overlook this:
Lastly, I don't know about you, but already having been able to beat on an STI a little I plan to get one somewhere down the road. When/if I do, I plan to mod the crap out of it and then tear it up on every type of racing available here (except soloI
). I don't see how you see a difference between the WRX and STI as far as the joy of modding goes.
Now, since Florida has received their first shipments, maybe now you could 'discuss' the STI with some even newer owners. Please? There is nothing wrong with stating your opinion, but it doesn't seem like you've put rational thought to it; then stick to your guns no matter what anyone's counter's to your arguments were. Now who is

Fair enough....but you heard it here first.

thanks Pat, ... you helped prove my point a bit. I wasn't even going to take time to write that much out. This guy is obviously full of himself.
dtech, you don't even know me, ... and if you did, ... you'd feel even more like an *** than you've made yourself out to be.
Sorry I'm not swayed by all your "savy vocabulary" like some of the other kiddies on your block.
I'm curious about how many other people in the states have taken the STi down the 1320, ... raced against a stage 4 WRX on the hwy, and even 'played' with the boost on their STi?? What do you think guys?

Mine, $21.6k + $8k in mods. Still no STI.
Dude, just stick to your regional. Yeah, Hawaii might be the first to receive the STI and the first to break them in, but they'll soon be all over the US. Please post your opinions elsewhere.

sorry, i don't mean to make it seem like i'm trying to start an arguement or anything like that, i just don't like the fact that everyone compares the WRX and the STi, given that the two are closer in comparison than say a lancer cedia and a lancer evolution, or a standard neon and a SRT-4, or integra gsr and an integra type-R. it's just weird to me that so many people are jumping ship to the STi and just leave the WRX like it never existed. one day it's a WOW, i just saw a WRX, and the next it's hmm, WRX, whatever, it's not an STi. another thing is that shouldn't the STi owners (lucky bastards)
, be comparing the STi to other cars that kick the little siblings a$$ such as the SRT-4 and the evolutions. come on, shouldn't older sibling be looking after little sibling, however, watch out for little sibling, he's on the come up to beat the older brother, isn't that how it always is. sorry guys, if i don't belong in the hawaii forum, i am from cali, but just wondering how many of you guys are still loyal to the WRX, as here there are many jump shippers, and some are still true to the roots if ya know what i mean.

Not everybody is jumping ship to an STI, many people here are more than content driving a " plain ole " WRX; but just because somebody " jumps ship" to an STI doesn't mean they are not staying true to their roots. I for one hope the general public starts to "brush off" my WRX with a: " It's only a WRX, and not an STI " mentality.....makes it easier for me to smoke em.
Oh and I think that someone who buys an 04 WRX now and plans to mod it instead of getting an STI is an idiot.
But whatever, as long as you are secure with your individual decision/car thats all that matters.

very true and very good points.
however, i guess that it just boggles my mind when people compare the WRX to the STi, which in fact that the WRX is still about 20% the same car as the STi. actually much of the improvement comes from the motor and transmission. take that out, and you'll have something very close to a WRX, still better, but a lot closer in terms of performance/handling. i just think that comparing the STi and the WRX, which many people are doing isn't really sticking to the roots, but rather leaving them behind and moving on, when in fact, they should be praising the WRX and comparing the STi to other vehicles such as the evolution, SRT-4, G35 etc.
i totally agree with you about the general public brushing you off and smoking them and what not. that's the mentality i'm looking for.

dude, what are you talking about? Jumping ship?? No one is saying anything about leaving the Subaru family. I guess you'd say the same thing is we were raving about a B4.
You obviously weren't a part of the Subaru crowd when all there was to buy was an RS, .... and I suppose those who bought a WRX when it came out and got rid of their RS jumped ship too?? Come on!
And if you think that an STi and base WRX are closer than say a GSR and Type R, ... where in the hell do you get that from??

you do have a point there, however, i don't see the WRX's put down the RS crowd, saying that the WRX has this on the RS, or the RS doesn't compare to this of the WRX. i just see more comparison with the WRX vs. the STi, when in fact that the STi should be compared to the evolution and other cars. that's my point. or why not compare the RS to the STi, saying that the STi isn't a RS. it's just that when there is a comparison, it's mostly always with the WRX. in terms of the "subaru crowd", well, i was kind of in between subaru and evolution in terms of rally cars. always loved them though. the gsr and type R comment was a bit off, i admit, but how about the lancer cedia and lancer evolution or standard neon and SRT-4. are those better comparisons? correct me if i'm wrong. geez, i didn't mean to offend you in any way. sorry if i'm not a true racer fan. i don't know too much about the 2WD cars and the mainstream vehicles. i'm just a fan of the rally inspired cars and/or AWD cars.

WHAT!!!!!! The SRT-4 or let's call it what it really is a Turbo'ed Neon is not in the same ballpart, or for that matter the same game as the EVO VIII, G35 or STi!
I never thought I'd see someone compare a Neon to a G35.

hey clampdip, (you'll have to explain that screen name btw
) I wasn't harping on you. It's just that we're not flaming the WRX at all, ... the STi is just THAT good of a car, .... it certainly warrants the insignificant price difference between the two.
As another example, when the WRX first came out, ... do you think anyone looking for all out performance bought a new RS? No, they didn't, b/c it would have been silly to spend that money on something not even close to the potential. Admittedly, the base WRX and the STi are on closer "levels" than the RS and WRX are, but the point is the same.
The thing I've just found humorous is how people are tripping about 'sticking up' for the WRX, when no one's flaming it, .... people are just saying the STi is that much better.
about the 'sticking with your roots' thing, .... the GC8 RS is the 'root' for Subaru performance in America, ... don't forget that.

Considering this is a forum for discussing opinions, observations, and "facts", my post was perfectly reasonable and open for discussion. Most people realized that.
That quote of mine says it all.
I never at any point said the STi was "inferior" or that "I'm right and you're wrong" because I prefer to buy the WRX, quite the opposite. There is no "right" answer here folks, I thought that was quite obvious. It's an individual choice. I just brought up points of dicsussion between the WRX vs. STi that were important to me and MAY have been important to other people looking at the two and then a couple of you have blown it out of proportion like I was trying to convert you or something.
My second post was for clarifying what may have not been clear the first time and to add a little sarcasm and humor, except for responding to Nolimit's less than well thought out response.
Nolimit....had you been a little more reasonable with your initial response, this thread may not have gotten all out of whack. If you refuse to realize that, then you just have some deeper issues you need to address. No matter what your point of view or "experience" with cars, there are simple things called manners which you obviously don't care much about. I don't have to know you to recognize the kind of person you are. It's quite clear from your posts and rude language.
I much rather use my vocabulary and arguments than yours. It's the difference between being a reasonable, tolerant, and understanding person vs. being a totally rude "grease
".
I'll be quite happy not to visit the Hawaii board anymore. It's a shame since it seems like most of you are intelligent, understanding ethusiasts with a very cool geographic setting to discuss the ins and outs of Subaru performance, ownership, and ideas, while there are the distinct few that are just plain full of themselves.

I choose my words wisely, ... and I think my point comes across clearly. You're right, your first post wasn't very clear in what you were 'getting at', but I see now. But still, ... we were talking about the STi, how he liked his purchase, ... basically a continuation of a conversation that was in person, .... in the Hawaii forum, not the STi forum, ... that's why you got some of the responses you got after your first post.
