<--- Complete r-tard. before i left boston for Hi to get my car shipped i i got an oil change at Jiffy lube (nowhere to do it myself before). I have drove the car ~750 miles on the island. and i checked my oil when i got it here and it was fine. When my friend checked it monday and it was fine(first heard the noise). When i checked it today it was below empty. i put 4 qts in and the sound went away. I feel so stupid but i think i might have been checking it wrong before the fact. i probably was doing something wrong when checking the oil.



I drove it ~15-20 miles with the noise. not pushing it hard at all. do you think there might be anything really damaged?

The rust on the up pipe will be scorched and stretched. Your ears will bleed from the horiffic noise.

 

no harm no foul i take it. Where is a place i can get my car checked out and make sure its in great running condition. Like compression checks and what not?

 

no CEL should be good to go. just make sure you keep some oil in it this time, o and get the heat shield fixed

well, running with almost no oil, and hearing rod knock/valve tap that badly, can mean bearing damage. run it hard for now, but if it knocks like that again and you have oil, then i'd check all bearing clearances. drain the oil again, search for any metal. cut open the oil filter, check for metal. if you have any, then start saving for a rebuild.
