Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

twin turbo to single turbo conversion (legacy twin turbo b4)

has anyone done a twin turbo to single turbo conversion (legacy twin turbo B4)?

i hear this is a very popular thing to do in japan!

at any rate... the reason im asking is coz im in the process of doing it..

i have had massive headache getting anyone to tune the B4 properly (my03)... and pple basically talk **** to me showing me their total ignorance as to how the twin setup works... (im in perth, australia)

anyway....

im gonna drop the twin setup for a single turbo... the IHI vf34 which i have sitting next to me at the moment...

my questions relate to.... how different (or similar) is the ej20 in the b4 as compared to those in the standard WRX and STi... from what i can garner from the web... the liberty/legacy ej20 seems somewhere in between the standard WRX and STi... i.e. forged pistons but no variable cams... compression is 9:1 as compared with 8:1 in STI but 9:1 in standard WRX. etc... does anyone know of any other differences etc.. that may affect my conversion to a powerful single turbo???

other practical things... will my01/02 STI exhaust manifold bolt on to this ej20? my mate is gonna give me his when he upgrades to fujitsubo...

exhaust dump pipe will have to be refashioned... no forseeable problem here...

will tune with aftermarket ECU... a motec...

toying with the idea of ANTILAG!! havent 100% decided on that yet though...

any input will be much appreciated...

If you have MOTEC, it's a piece of cake

Just hook up WRX headers, VF34, WRX IC, WRX IC pipe, WRX downpipe, WRX exhaust.

Then wire the MOTEC up and get it tuned.

Getting the car running in stock ECU is another story though, it'll be a major headache.
