Re: Re: Turbo-XS
Was just looking at their site, I like their stage kits. Will have to take a closer look at their FMIC. Its a major pain to install isnt it? I really like the look of FMIC, but doesnt it hurt to have so much distance for the air to travel? Just stuff I heard and I dont know enough to know whats true or not.
Edit: Cant seem to find their FMIC on the site...

Oh the TurboXS FMIC is not available as of yet, it's in their catalog though. You can find more info and pictures for it on www.vividracing.com. Pricing is about $1400-$1500.

Depends
I think it has more to do with the pressure drop than the distance. If you have a poorly designed TMIC that has more pressure across it than a FMIC, the FMIC would be better. But pressure being equal, there would be some measurable difference. Of course, the cooler, denser charge from the FMIC is going to make more power. Even the WRC cars that are always moving use FMICs for different stages. One of the links here a day or two ago had a vendor saying not to think about a FMIC for big upgrades, definately get one as opposed to the TMIC. Just depends on the goals. Keep in mind the TMIC cools down quickly as soon as you start moving again.

So can I assume I could throw in say an APS turbo, an XEDE, and other non related parts and pieces and they will "generally" play nice? I guess I dont want to piece together something and find that something wont work with something else...

Yes you can Dave. Although with the APS turbo, I would probably recommend getting an APS downpipe over anything else. Not that it's required, it's just that it was designed for their turbo's.

One other thing to think about,
since we don't have an AWD dyno, the kits are a little easier to tune as they'll have base maps that will be almost spot-on. With a mix-match of parts, there may or may not be maps to support your mods.

"We recommend a short ram intake as your stock box must be disgarded."
"Disgarded"??? I hate it when I have to disgard something. Those guys need a spell checker... =)
Ack $1500. hah...
Ok so I like the look, but has anyone seen a mesh screen you could put in front of it? Would be interested in keeping rocks and such from damaging it and also I think a mesh would look pretty cool in front with the IC sorta in the background... Just an idea.

I have the APS FMIC,
but not the new one on their site. I haven't actually installed it, I was deployed for the last six months. I got mine black for two reasons. One, I like the stealth look (especially with the **** cops here), and my car is black. I'd like to install it next week, but mine wasn't designed to keep the fogs, so I have to fabricate brackets if I want to keep 'em.

Oh and far as tuning goes, road tuning is about 90% as good as dyno tuning. I dont feel this is an issue. Some of us are getting really good at tuning ourselves and are finally seeing benefits to our tuning.
So dont let the no AWD dyno in hawaii thing scare you. Now we just need to get Sean to finish my wideband O2 kit
Oh and I'll be buying a datalogging software that is about the same as Road Dyno but also has great logging features. That should help immensly, and I can use it for you guys too later down the road.
