speeding ticket
i was driving through kansas to go home for a break from college when I was pulled over after 9 hours of driving by myself when i got pulled over. It was an 83 in a 70. Does anyone know what happens if you don't pay a ticket from states you don't live in.

Yeah, if you plan to never go back, then nothing will happen. If you go back you can expect a bench warrant to be on the state computers and if you are ever stopped by a cop in the future in that state, expect to go to the local police department to straighten things out and lighten your pocket book, plus possible jail time as they process your case.

They will usually impose whatever 'their' maximum fine is. And as Rexstang said, a bench warrant will be issued. Your license in that state will be suspended (which means your privilege to drive in that state). You won't be able to gain any type of security clearance if you happen to need one (for work, etc). Plus, if that state and your licensing state report to one another as far as driving violations, it will affect your current license and insurance as well.
pay the ticket, .... if not now, plan on doing it later.

Since you just got your wagon, do what I did: Send a letter stating that you are new to the island (they don't know) and that you also have a new car that you are growing accustomed to. Claim that you are still unfamiliar with judging the speed in your car and ask to have the ticket reduced/removed.
I did that back when I got here (78 in a 55 on H-2) and got my ticket reduced from 130 to 70ish. It's worth your while. The address is on the back of the ticket.
