me too I used to have a 97Honda had rock chip all over never had any rust... I think the newer Subaru has poor protection from rust...

Post up some pics. If you get a rock chip and it rusts you are screwed but if it's bubbling and there is no clear damage to the paint then the dealer I'll have to fix it.

I had rust too on my 09, in a very odd place and the dealership said it wasn't covered because it has to be rusted all the way through. So I just sprayed it with wd40 and put a couple layers of touch-up paint.

Try going to a different dealership. or call Subaru of America and complain. Or go to a body shop and have them write it up, they should describe a cause of the rust, and take that estimate to the dealership. And again try couple different dealerships too! Good luck!

^^^ Agreed, call SOA and compain to them about the dealership not wanting to cooperate. Make sure to have pictures handy just in case.

Does nobody know what rust perforation means? Just curious. Even if there's bubbles he still gotta wait for it to completely rust threw. It says it in the owners manual. Stupid yes cause it will
cost the dealer more to fix when it goes fully threw.

He also would have to call SOH since SOA doesn't do our warranty claims. Were not part of SOA here in Hawaii. There is a total of 3 distributors here in the US. SOA, SOH, and one other one that I can't remember.

try to google "hawaii subaru dealer". the subaru website shows 2 locations on oahu, both owned by servco.

i remember pictures of your rust. it looked to me like you improperly jacked up your car; as a result the location started to rust. you didn't mention what the road conditions were in the PACNORWEST while you were driving during your brief stint up there. maybe that accelerated the rust.

So if your paint begins to lift it isn't covered under warranty? What happens if this occurs over a large area? That is unsat. I understand what perforation is but paint lifting is still a fit and finish issue.

It's possible that subaru may allow a warranty claim based on appearance, but if there is any hint of a chip in the paint or finish, I wouldn't put any money on getting the claim going through...

Pics would help... Personally I've never seen rust just start from nowhere. However, I've seen very small chips and nicks in the paint, causing spider webs to spread out from that area under the paint.
