recon made it easier for exhausts now,. you dont need an affidavit anymore, and as long as you have your cats in place, and what not, you'll get the recon paper with a big stamp on it saying no recon required.

so technically you dont need recon for your exhaust, but you need the paper saying that you dont need it. lol lame i know.

and as far as tint goes, it has nothing to do with recon, tint has it own little set of rules. 35% +/- 6% like mentioned above. stick with that and you'll have no problems. Illegal tint is 1 of the first things cops look for to pull you over....then they start nitpicking about recon.

yo WES, so in order to get recon we need to have cats? hmm, that means alot of us wouldnt pass then huh? i know its an actual safety check inspection but i was told to just tell the truth on what kind of mods you have. a person i know told me that they dont go looking under your car... i could be wrong though...

well i would recommend going in with your cats, because after all, removing a perfectly good cat is a federal offense.

but yeah I know a few people who went to recon with NO cats, and really loud exhausts, and they passed. To be honest, the past 3 cars that i got recon for, they didnt even look at my exhaust, look under the car, have me start it up and rev it or anything. But i had my cats. (dont know if they can really tell the difference)

And i've never heard of any suby person failing because they didnt have any cats. And your right honesty is the best policy there.

If you or anyone have anymore questions, then go to forums hawaii and look up kupuna. he works there (recon) and he is the coolest guy and he wants to help people who want to get recon and stay out of trouble, and avoid costly tickets. And Myron he lives in Waiau, so maybe u can swing by and he can "precheck" your car before you go there and possibly waste your time and money.

Again, you do not neet your cat to get RECON because there are no tests that can tell if you have a cat or not on your vehicle. Have passed RECON with two STI's with zero cats and passed with no problem.

 

Does anyone know the days and hours they inspect for Recon?

Do we need to take anything down there for an exhaust and wheel recon?

I just want to get the sticker so the cops don't pull me over for these two things.

What if you've got Tein Flex's with the recommended height lowering? Will they Pass you?

 

same question but w/Tein SS coilovers??? one year they denied me recon cuz i had coilovers, did the rules change?

and cleared headlight mod (no plastic ambers) do they check? cuz i prolly wont pass if they do.

 

So I asked about two things specifically:

1. Cat Back Exhaust
NO
2. 1" increase in Diameter of Wheel: 17" to 18" increase
NO

He told me that they will not give you a Recon unless your suspension is altered, if your wheels are more than 2" bigger in diameter or stick out 2" from the wheel well...

I asked about the police giving tickets out for exhausts...they basically told me that a lot of people are getting exhaust tickets for noise level and not so much recon...

So...it looks like if you want a Recon sticker...alter your suspension, get it aligned, with paper in hand head down to the Recon office...get the sticker...they won't give you one for your exhaust or wheels...
