Well I have pretty much everything I need so I should be able to start tonight. The axles never shipped cause the vendor Im going through made a last minute decision to go to the SEMA show, but I am gonna just get the stubs and seals from the dealer anyway so its all good i guess. Wish me luck!

I will try and remember to take some tomorrow. Most of the stuff I've done so far is rudamentary and if you need a play by play for then you shouldnt be doing a tranny swap lol. I got the front wheels off and the car on jackstands. Took off the intercooler, heat shield and exhaust. Im a bit worried as to if the tranny will fit under the car still with it on the transmission jack. the sti tranny is beefy.... need a foot and a half just for the transmission itself, so on the jack you need probably about 24 inches. I'll get it done but this could be a tight squeeze....

*Fwew*... takin a break. So, I got the starter off, driveshaft off, shift linkage out, pitch mount off, top tranny bolts off, clutch fork disengaged and all the wires and grounds disconnected. also got the axle pins out and boy were those a pain for some reason. the drivers side one came out nice and smooth but the passenger one got hung up or spread too far inside or something. I could only get it half way out and i ended up having to cut it off with bolt cutters and tap it out the other way. If you guys need to do this in the future just be really careful and use the proper size punch cause if they get mangled inside you are gonna have a helluva time gettin em out and definitly make sure you use new ones when you put them back in. other than that things have been smooth so far. I had to go scour the entire town to find a 14mm hex wrench for the 6 speed plug wich was lame. For some reason no one carries them that big, but i finally found one at the 5th store i checked. I also had to go get some super high jackstands to raise the front up more wich should give me the clearance I need, but its still gonna be close (like down to the inch). So.... I guess I better go finish eating and then get that tranny pulled!

-Mike

P.S. no pics yet sorry, but I'm on a super tight deadline for this and its about 35 degrees out so I'm grumpy and freezin ma ballz off

Thanks josh, thats the big reason why I didnt want to do it either but there is something wrong with my 5speed and I cant afford to be broken down on the road with only one car between me and the wife, so since it was gonna be expensive anyway I figured I might as well go all the way on a planned timeframe and save money down the road. Welp tranny is on the jack and waitin to be separated so I'm off.

hey walt! well guys, i am pooped..... the tranny has won for the night lol. I got a little bit of space opened up on the top of the tranny but its still givin me a hard time. i think in the morning i will try lubing up the alignment bolts studs on the bottom and give her a good pry. I'll probably enlist a second pair of hands as well, this is kinda tough for a one man operation. night everyone!

not a stupid question, I wouldnt have been the first to forget it, but yes I did disconnect it. I think I was probably just tired from goin at it by myself for about 12 hours yesterday (including running around town for parts). So I'll give it another go in a bit and hopefully i can get this bugger off.

Oh, btw we got our first snow today..... yay for working in freezing temps! I better buy some snow tires soon, I dont think my kumho MX will do very well lol.

oh no! well it would appear that i am hung up again, for something dumb.... I am missing one of the bolts and washers for the clutch cover. the wrx uses 6 and the sti aparently uses 9 and the guy only sent 2 extras. there is also 1 pin missing in the flywheel.... of course its sunday and most places are closed by now. This is really gonna suck if i have to waste a whole day for that one stupid bolt..............
