I've used spectrum analzers in the army. Not hard to scan the area your in to see what frequencies are in use ie when u press your remote. Once I know what frequency I can them use the same spectrum analyzer to transmit that frequency to trigger a receiver ie car alarm maybe worse your garage door opener.
+1, you can also get RF scanners and more or less keep going through a known band and presto it will open.... alot easier then breaking in. Think about it, would you second guess a guy that opened a car with a remote?

this is still ****ing scary knowing how us subaru owners put a lot of money and time in our builds to know it can be just taken away by a simple wifi hack

Sorry to hear OP. I just can't believe that high tech cars are still easily victimized.

Hopefully he won't hit our hiic members, there's literally thousands of vehicles he can prey on at will on the island. This guy w/ the rf scanner is like a shark in a pool of baitfish.

All cars that use a RF emitter to open the car are in the crosshairs... not just subies, still blows though.

ojichan,

did your car alarm have a rolling code / hopping code feature?

i'm curious if this will prevent the " box " from getting through the car alarm

I honestly doubt it, because scanners with a very small freq. range will find it, you can scan a small spectrum in less then a millisecond depending how well of a scanner you have.
