I heard negativity regarding Mobil1, but then I saw it being poured into some ALMS cars at Laguna Seca. I assume they know more about the oils and engine than people on the internet.
I also didn't spread it all over my chest and nipples.
thanks for the info. since i change oil about 1-2 times a year (i think i'm down to about 2500 miles/year) i just wanted to see how it holds up since its primarily used for only autox now. lmk how it goes with the valvoline.

My change interval on Amsoil will be 5,000 miles. Doesn't it seem kinda early to change it at 3,000 miles? My bro used to just change his filter every 10,000 miles and topped off the sump when he used Amsoil. His car went oer 100,000 miles and he autocrossed it regularly. His car was NA and ours are turbo, but I don't know if this matters that much. I thought by using Amsoil, you could extend the service interval?
IMO a better oil won't break down as fast and it may as well as give better lubrication under heat and pressure. But it won't stop the contaminants from building up, dirt and other contaminants from blow-by will still get in no matter what brand is used. So by increasing the service interval lets that stuff build-up and circulate around longer.
Yeah I change at 3,000 miles on the Suby no matter what oil/filter I use. You can literally see the dirtiness of the oil coming out of the car versus the clean fresh oil going in. Not like its a huge chore to change oil anyways.

Only because that is what a lot of cars run stock.
Now I am at about 1,000 miles on the Valvoline Synthetic...oil is still very clear. Not gonna pay for the stupid chemistry test but just looking at it with my eyeballs tells me it is staying cleaner than my last few oils. That's about all I know.
I check my oil level and put a drop on a paper towel every other week. That's my scientific method...lol.

i used to run royal purple when i first got my wagon back in the summer 07 but as of last year but times is hard nowdays so as of summer of 08 i switched over to mobil 1. i always change out my oil/filter every 3k-4k reguardless of what i run. i have noticed a difference in how my motor runs, warms up, engine temps between the 2 brands. my thing is as long as you change your oil regularly within 3k you should be fne reguardless of what you run in your car. keep in mind i drive mine daily & dont auto-x it or anything like that.
5 quarts of Castrol Syn 10/30 every 3K. Dirt cheap at the mart.
I went the Amsoil route before. Had the dual filter element yada yada. My motor blew at 26K. I don't think it's wise to do extended drain intervals. Oil is cheap, it's easy to do. Small price to pay for piece of mind. Hell with a fumoto, oil changes are a one hand deal with a beer in the other.
