Interior Converting

Question:

I have an 04 WRX Wagon and wanted to convert my interior trim to an 05. By interior trim I mean the center console. I know the difference there is that the 2004 has a Cup holder (and since I have a Double-Din I find it totally not useful) and the 2005 does not. The 05 also has what seems to be bigger air conditioner vents in the center than an 2004.

Can I just change out the top trim and bottom, and top air conditioning vents or is the set-up a complete redo??

I really dont care to have my cup holder and think that the 2005 Center console is much cleaner.

Anyone attempted this or has done this already????

I've not heard of any one doing this, but that does not mean it won't work. but you'll need to change out A/C controsl too and they are wired differently. the 04 uses cables while the 05 is all electronic.

While at it you should also look into a JDM consol, they have the e-brake on the right side of the consol while the US 05, it's on the left.

Looks like the 05 setup is different. I have a Legacy GT and if the 05 AC is the same as the LEgacy gt's, the readings or A/C and temp display is tied in or reads out on oem stereo lcd. Thus, the wiring would be different.

So,..if you wanted to put in a stereo deck, you would have to leave the oem in as its tied in with the temp controls,...

If the above info is correct, an I assume it is just by looking at the *****, you're likely looking at a complete HVAC system swap. BIG job just to get rid of the cup holder. It shouldn't, however, be too much trouble to just change the upper trim and it's associated duct to get rid of the cup holder.

Good on ya if you pull it off, though, too humbug for me.

Yes 04 WRX uses cables for the A/C controls and this was all changed in the 05since it has climate controls (04 STi has climate control but different ***** anyway). Other things to consider are that you will need new plastic bits including: center console, shifter trim, radio bezel, A/C bezel, armrest, mounting bracket for the ebrake, ash tray, and of course the dials for the AC, etc. There is also the mirror controls that's relocated so you'll have to do some fabrication and DCCD in an STi that's moved (but not applicable to you).

Done it on an STi...it should be easier to do in a WRX than a STi.

Just look on eBay for the parts. That's where I got most of my stuf from. If you want, you can PM me.
