none....seriously. what mods do you have so far that you need a turbo upgrade? post a list of all your mods and then maybe we'll see. also try the search button and the reviews section. what we think means nothing in the end so research it yourself and then post a list with what you wanna get. then we can give you input on the choice you've made.

hey hugo...i guess what the guys are saying is that, the possibilities are almost endless. you need to figure out what direction you want to pursue with your mods. from what i can see, you are going for the power mods. i met u at vakamon when u were inquiring about headers, and you know even ryan said that he does not recommend it unless u change ur turbo and make some ridiculous power. he persuaded you to get EM and recommended cobb tuning's AP2 which you did order...now that's getting into the right direction. but now that you want a bigger turbo, then you need to really sit down with the pros (vakamon) and do a lot of reading and research, then present your findings to the i-clubbers, and they will give you their honest opinion, whether good or bad.
as for your "with power" question, is your car a daily driver, or do you just drive it on the weekends(like 5 miles?
) sometimes, power can be your downfall if you are stuck on the h1 rush hour traffic...again, these are just thoughts that you might need to consider...it's still your money...
read about the recon law here in hawaii if you want to know more about making your car "street legal"...here's the link:

good luck!

I just got back from spending a week on Oahu. IMO a large amount of hp is really not as useful as spool-up.
Without a track and the almost constant bumper-to-bumper traffic at all hours of the day, a large and laggy turbo is probably not ideal.
You should look at quick spool to "win" those stop light to stop light encounters which may last about 2 seconds.
Large hp numbers are just that, large numbers that you can brag about.
This goes back to defining what your needs are and then doing the appropriate mods.
Try the AP Stg 2 first, you'll like it a lot.

^^good points all. thing is that you drive this car everyday....you throw on a big turbo and you'll get big power....for a little while. problem is what are you gonna do with it? my guess is either nothing and you just wanna say how much power you have or you're gonna do something we don't condone here on these boards. if it's the first one then you really need to sell your car and buy a better platform to make big power. nothing against the STI but it's not the best platform for a big power daily driver. if it's the second then well may the force be with you. if your serious about doing a turbo upgrade and not just thinking about it then you have probably looked at and read about almost every turbo out there. if not then you need to before asking for help. i've spent the last week trying to decide on the catback that i'm going to use and have probably spent 10+ hours debating this. there aren't a lot of exhausts avail for the FXT so you can kinda see my point. the more research you do, the better equipped you'll be to find what suits you. keep in mind that in most cases you can't just throw on a turbo and be good 2 go. you need supporting mods and don't even get me started on braking and suspension. your car should be good for 12 sec pulls with bolt ons so if that isn't enough power then by all means go big. look at jose (thundersti). he did the work, thought about it forever, and planned, and planned, and look now. he's got a downright animal of a suby. prime example of why you need to take your time, research, make a plan, and stick to it. GL....btw i'm going with the stromung single tip for the FXT, incase anyone was curious...

At the cruise, talk with those who have done upgrades. You may want to do upgrades that are balanced. I.E. 330 HP+ stock brakes+stock suspension & (mounts)+tires= not my ideal setup.

I Agree (Sort of)
I spent the better part of 2 months deciding what turbo I was going to use. I talked to ALOT of people, but ultimately it was my decision to live with, good or bad. I went with the GT35R because I was willing to live with the lag and because I plan on building this car into a very nice, high horsepower beast over the next 2-3 years. I agree with everyone saying that you need to do your research, but I disagree that "bigger isnt always better" If you can live with the lag, buy the proper associated systems, tune it correctly, spending $40 bucks every 150 miles then feel free to go big. Good luck with the research (your gonna change your mind 42236782 times)

yeah, i still think that bigger isn't always better if you're looking for a streetable car. it doesn't make sense that you have a car that pushes a million hp and cannot do anything with it besides do illegal freeway runs. you won't win any autox events with that and we certainly aren't getting a drag strip any time soon.
it is nice to have a huge amount of hp though since once you get over the lag barrier it becomes worth it. Tuning is another problem here int he island since we just recently got an AWD dyno. There aren't any good tuners on the island.
Since the OP has an 2006 STI, I would definitely look into a more streetable turo like a 16G or 18G turbo. You could also go with an FP Green or Red though. A VF34/VF22 (though smaller than previous turbos metioned but more flow than a stock VF39) on a 2.5L Engine would also make you smile a little more when driving it. If you are set on upgrading your turbo I would definitely do your research then start with a smaller turbo and see how you like it. Then if you're think you've gotten board with that turbo get a larger one until you're completely happy. Keep in mind that you'll need EM with this upgrade and your stock injectors and fuel pump will have to be changed if you go any bigger than a basic bolt on turbo.
Since you do have a 2.5L engine a bigger turbo would still be ok since the half more displacement over the WRX engine does help on the low to mid end.
Hope this helps some.
