Now that's a good idea. Sturdy but removable.

Now we need to find someone on island that can "reverse" engineer one of those, from just those pics.

it shouldn't be too hard. i was thinking in stead of it being a single piece for the horizontal mount make it two(sliding interlocked bars) so it would be adjustable between all cars if it bolts up correctly. plus it would be easier to store instead of that massive bar.

but if it says 00-94 then wouldn't that cover just about all the cars (GC8 and GDA) including the STI. isn't the frame the same was the WRX?

I plan on eventually getting the HAMA camera mount. This guy at a track day showed it to me. It seems pretty sturdy and you can even mount it on the outside of the car if you are crazy enough (won't pass tech though).

HAMA mount

In regards to that video I posted; that MINI was pretty quick. It was a MINI Madness MINI with 260 hp and some suspension mods. He was about 3-5 seconds slower than me.

Just a note for you guys using cameras for autox...we won't allow the windsheild suction cup mounts, sorry. Also, any exterior mounted cameras may not be allowed. The camera stuffed in the seat hole definitely will not be allowed.

What about rear window or rear side window?

BTW, the harness is cool too. the crappy part for you is that the stock seatbels will be at it's lowest position on the pillars. b
Dan is too tall like me. You can barely drive the car with the seat position and like you said the seatbelts dig into your shoulder since they are set at the lowest. Gotta be another harness bar out there that works better.

I was thinking suction cup inside the car, but I bet its not allowed. Unless maybe you could also tether it to the door handles or something in case it came off. I just dont think tech will "believe" the suction can hold it. Like with my tripod I had to tether the camera since the screw on the top might come off?! Whatever. Those camera screws are meant to hold cameras of all weights and my camera is small. Oh well. Tripod just seems easiest. May not look as nice as some of the custom jobs out there, but I dont want to have to work harder than I need to and have stuff bolting into every hole in the car.

Sorry, Mark. In-cabin stuff needs to be bolted down for safety. Reason being that any loose items can cause the driver to lose concentration or by some freak accident become lodged under the brake pedal. Just a second of distraction may be enough to lose control of your vehicle and go into a wall or even worse, a corner worker. Suction cups can come loose when you least expect it. This would apply also to G-Tech units, radar detectors & cell phones. Thanks for everyone's kokua!

ps: this applies to SCCA autox..."tracks days" may have their own policies regarding cameras.

If anyone comes up with a good solution for the STi, let me know. I may try Dave's tripod solution (I think it passed tech?), but would like something that is sturdy and easily removed. A harness bar is not an option since I'm tall and have kids that ride in the back.

Tripod passed fine. Did you check it out? I couldnt even move the tripod if I wanted to. I had one cinch strap going through the child seat latches for rear cinching, then just a bungee going under the drivers seat to something I could hook it on. The camera was then just tethered to the tripod by a strap I had on the tripod. I just tied it onto the camera hand loop. It takes about 5 mins to install and doesnt require any removal of anything on the car. My tripod is pretty big, more for photography so it was a bit higher than I liked, but it worked awesome. I can set it up again and take a pic if anyone cares to see it. Pretty easy to visualize tho. The videos were great. Especially since most cameras have the anti-shake deal as well. There really is no easy way in the STi. I spent 2 days about about $150 on everything from aluminum bars between the headrests, wood, steel. Mounting stuff to any bolts I could find in the car. Nothing worked. Im pretty sure a cheap tripod would work as well as long as you can cinch it down.
