Brake dust city...
Brake dust city...
Do new brake pads give off more brake dust than worn in ones? Im just curious since I cant drive even 50 miles without the BBSs being covered in brake dust. Tim you seen this yet? I washed the car twice already and once again I look today and the wheels are now gunmetal instead of silver. Its ridiculous. Just curious. I know there are some low dust pads, but I would assume the brembos use something special. Who knows, just curious...
You fat american
There is a trade off to performance and dust. Generally speaking any performance pad dusts more then a normal OE pad. In the case of your STI, I wouldn't be surprised if it were some sort of track pad on there already.
Of course my first comment plainly talks about how comfortable we get with vehicles that dont rattle, dont vibrate, dont squeel, dont dust, etc... In other countries, it's a non-issue.

It still amazes me on how much people can ***** about a great car. I mean a lot of us would give almost anything for one and all I hear is I can't believe it doesn’t have a radio and now the brake pads dust to much, it doesn't have floor mats. If the car is that much of a headache you can give it to me. Maybe you should have pick up a G35 instead.
I'm not sure if you realize that when you pick up your car you knew it was a PERFORMACE car. Having PERFORMANCE usually has side affects.
Sorry I just had to vent.

jeez simple question, thats it. not *****ing, just wondering...
maybe it was cleaning the wheels for 2 hours or whatever that got me riled about it who knows. wasnt looking for a rant or someone telling me i should have gotten a different car, i got the car i like and just wondered about the dust.
i could care less about the radio or floor mats or whatever else i have kiddinly mentioned those all get replaced anyways.

Sorry for the rant. I guess I'm just jealous
. I'm saying that there is a price to pay for performance. Everyone that goes to the track knows that and I haven't seen you at the track(drag, AutoX, Track days). Like I said in the other tread, I think Tim is the only one that actually knew what kind of car he was getting. I mean hes pushed his WRX to the limit. Everyone else that got the car only knew what the numbers were and may have had a general idea of how it would handle.
Again sorry for my rant, but I still think Tim is the only one I'll see at AutoX

True, I havent pushed a car to the limit before and in some minds probably dont "deserve" an STi, whatever that means. But I do intend to try out auto-x and Im sure the STi is over what someone like me needs, but in the end I think if someone wants a car let em buy it and if they dont use it to its full extent it "is" a shame, but once again its their car.
There are times when I wish I had just bought a damn IS or something like that because they have no performance and I wouldnt ever have to get into message threads with people saying I shouldnt have bought a car that has performance when I might not use it, but I didnt and I do like the car so I guess Im stuck in that position.
No more saying I will be at auto-x until I actually go next time. Of course with the wife giving birth on or about May 20th and having to get a c-section I would imagine me leaving for a full day on May 31 for the day at track might not happen in which case let the "I told you Dave wouldnt be there" messages begin.
Hey Dave,
In spite of all the negative stuff, I for one appreciate your comments as it is givin' me clues as to what I'm in for when my STI arrives in the "hand state". So please continue to take the time to share your experiences and questions as they are most appreciated.
Ever thought of waxing the wheels with liquid wax? "Eagle One" or similar. Helps to keep the dust from sticking (especially if the wheels are clearcoat). Previously done with no problems.
BTW, service is my game for one of the trey companies.
DonttryME!
Waitin' and waitin' on my 2BlueSTI

Dave...don't take it so personally. The only reason why we are so adamant about taking the car to the track for Solo II is for you to actually enjoy what is was built for. You say you don't have a problem with just using it on the streets...that's cool...no one is saying you don't deserve the car. In a selfish way, we all want to see what the car can do. We all know 95% of all STi owners will never bring their car to the track for SCCA ot track days. So be it. The few of us (current owners and prospective owners) will be more than happy to use the car on the track.
No hard feelings, Dave...just keep posting...the rants never seemed to bother you before...

Wont know til I get my azz out there tho. May 31 would be a perfect day to come for sure and Im just hoping the wife recovers enough so I can bail for the day. I am curious what the STi can pull at the drags and how well it can compete at auto-x, Im just not the one to be able to show everyone its true potential and even more sure I could never hand the keys to someone else to do... Hopefully Tim will come out and show us what it has. Out of curiosity what class will the STi be in?

The STi was originally in B Stock (BS) class. However, from what I am hearing now, the classification of a stock STi would be in A Stock (AS). All stock classes allow you to run with DOT- approved race rubber (sticky compound/ low treadwear) tires like the Kumho V700's that I use in SM.
If any modifications are done, like suspension work put you in SM

Rough crowd today
Dave,
Yes I see a lot of dust and I assumed it's the better then stock WRX pads doing their job. I ran into this on my 4Runner when I put better pads on.
I just washed and put a good coat of wax on the rims and it washes off pretty easy.
Don't take the comments personal, but do try and come out for AutoX and/or a track day. I'm thinking we may never see an Evo 8 out there, but would be nice to see a few STis.
I plan to take the wagon out in May (one last time, unless someone buys it before then) , but will bring the STi out for Test and Tune. It will be a good chance to get used to the car without worrying about lousy times.

Again I'm sorry, I must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed and saw the I still had an under powered Nissan key on my key chain. Hopefully I can change it real soon.
