Am I missing something?

I'm truly surprised that the majority of the '93-on (what's that? FC?) RX7's are going for less than $15k.

FD. And, if you're not a vacuum hose and apex seal replacing expert you're actually just buying trouble. How much you willing to spend on trouble?

Sorry, I know there are a bunch of FD lovers here - but I've helped 2 separate friends through bad experiences with FD's and I'm done with 'em. Your experience may vary.

From what I know rotrary engines are great, but very few people know how to properly service them. With a rebuild they will last for a long time!

I know nothing about them. I'm not shopping for one since $12k is about 120x my budget, but it surprised me.

If I had an unlimited budget, though, I'd like to have one. Great looking car.

I was snooping around the Mazdas because I really wouldn't mind getting an MX6. I know they're fwd, but I really wonder how well an LSD up front would cure the handling.

They are VERY vulnerable to detonation though. Heat (leading to pre-ignition/detonation) is the #1 enemy of a rotary. They are NOT known as durable turbocharged motors that's for sure.

From a RX7 owner:
It is a shame, but these cars are not for everyone. They are only for the select few that have the resources it takes to deal with them. One must be careful if he or she wishes to own one of these cars, because they require the kind of attention that only a person experienced with auto mechanics is prepared to give. Either that, or you need an infinite budget of spending money. When running properly, the Mazda RX-7 it is a thrill a second to drive. When it's not, you had better make sure your bank account is full.

What every RX7 owner ends up doing in the engine's lifetime (replacing rubber homses with silicone).

I've done this. Twice. It wasn't fun either time.

I used to want a rx7 badly, until I lived with someone who owned on. And it wasnt just his car, but his buddies who owned rx7s also. The maintence on those cars is unreal. I can't even count how many times we were supposed to be somewhere but we were in the garage, or on the side of the road, working on his car. That was on his third motor. I remember one of his friends saying that it was all just rumors, the rx7 was great etcetc, about 2 weeks later the motor popped. They're very sexy cars, but after seeing how unrelieble they really are in general, I would never own one. They have the reputation of being unreliable for a reason
From a post on our very own i-club even.

As much as I like the *potential* of the rotary, if I were to pick up an FD, the first thing I'd do is drop an LS1 into it.

Changes the weight distribution by about 1%, lots of torquey power, and (relatively) easy to maintain.

I was looking pretty hard at some Vega's and Chevette's with that same intent. LS1's are about as expensive, if not more, than the RB's.

I'm curious. Are those FD models the ones that come with 3 rotar engines or are those strictly Japanese?

No 3-rotor motors in the US...

I'd love a LS1 FC or Porsche.
