Yup, its exactly what you think. Im going to be deployed for a YEAR to Afghanistan. Yup, im in the Navy yet ill be on the ground for a year with the Army and the Marines. I have no idea what ill be doing or where in Af ill be. Did i ever happen to say i HATE camping? Well, looks like im gonna be in the Army/Marines for a year starting in July. i found out yesterday morning and the friggin officer was talkign to me like i was dead already. I have never instantly hated someone in my life until that moment...

Edit: Oh, im a Cryptologist/IT so i have no idea why they are sending me.

 

You'l prolly be in an office with A/C far from the front line doing analysis...we've have two O-gangers from our boat go after they left. It's pretty much an office job.

more than likely you will be sitting at a brigade level TOC (tactical operations center) or even division level doing whatever you do as liason to the Army. Good luck and I hope your land legs are as good as your sea legs

Everyone I know that was not an MA or HM has ended up in an office doing supply requisitions or some other admin type job.

Stay safe.
Make sure all your stuff (legal, will, page 2, SGLI) is all in order...just in case.

 

ive been to that place twice all over that b**** its hot as hell in the summer and cold as ***** in the winter but with that job u will prob be at bahgram air base that place isnt bad at all u can get internet and cable in ur room cell phones a buger king pizza place popeyes and a korean place to eat at a PX and 3 chow halls that are good i wish i was there when i was in country but i just got back from there in may and they said we where the last marines in the coauntry cuz the contract ran out fo rythat country but good luck and make it back safe that country isnt that bad but u still got to watch out alot of IEDs make it back safe

 

So for those of you that went over there as an IA are you still wearing you Navy uniforms or were you issued camoflage uniforms? Also are you guys getting bonus pay for being there? I know its a tax free zone but are you getting hazardous duty pay and such also?

 

I know exactly where you'll be working. The hangar on Bagram. You might as well not even leave Oahu since you're more or less gonna have every comfort of home.

I got back almost 2 years ago, so I can only imagine the tremendous amount of beautification and Americanization they've done since then.

 

Well, thing is i left Hawaii last Nov. Now im in SD and honestly, i hate it. Everyday i think to myself i wish i was back in hawaii. I guess after 10yrs the islands become part of you...

I cant tell you anything about Afghanistan since all 3 tours were to Iraq,,,but Its pretty much the same principles....

Very hot, drink water, Stay under cover, threat level very high, it sucks out here, theres many factor,,,but hopefully some of the guys here give you better info on that area,,, Thanks,,, God Bless and Stay Safe,, Jose
