You obviously just want the wide body, stop beating around the bush.
Do not get another WRX, get the STI.
Dual AVCS, tranny, diffs, 114x5, and so on....
Your wrong about insurance and being 25 years old. That relationship and discounting is over. Currently, most insurance companies use a formula with your age in their somewhere...no more 25 year old threshold and suddenly insurance drops. I am 26...when I turned 25, nothing changed with what I pay. Even called to ***** out it...no difference, lol.
Better questions....
How much are you upside down in your loan?
Have you gone to the stealership and asked what they would give you?, MySubaru.com estimated buy-back is bull$hit, be careful.
You know the EJ255 is horrible in terms or reliability vs. the EJ257, right?
You know the WRX is basically a "two-legger," right? E-LSD or traction control whatever you call it...
It just seems you want to save $$$ in some unimportant non-performance aspects, and then use that saved $$$ for power, when a two-legger with little brakes is not going to cut it.
The only benefit I see with your build is straight line performance. Sorry for being candid...

So then you mean to tell me that my insurance for an STi is still going to be a lot/the same by the time I hit 25? If that's the case I don't know if I can go with an STi, I mean I have to pay my tuition, insurance and the car. I don't know if I can swing it all.
If you mean my loan as in now for my 08? I paid it off in full at the dealer. As for my trade in for a new car I again am paying it in full so I won't need a loan hopefully.
Can you elaborate on how the Guaranteed Trade in Program is bull****?
I am more than aware of our cars flaws trust me, I do. The EJ255 may be horrible in reliability but that won't stop me from swapping or rebuilding down the line. My build now wasn't for straight line performance. I got rid of those little brakes and went with a brembos and stoptechs which I would do again with a wrx.
Yeah, but 10k is worth all the tranny, diff, brakes, etc...
Add it up, you know your going to regret it later....think about the price and hassle to swap out everything to become an STI in just transmission and diff terms. Plus, you are planning to spend TONS on upgrades...why not pay that up front? (but a different category of upgrades)
Ultimately, what is the difference in monthly insurance rates between a WRX vs. STI? That has to be address first, since it seems to be a lingering concern. I think the difference is not going to out-weigh the benefits of an STI over the WRX.
Yes, the WRX is as fast as the STI in a straight-line. But, the WRX gets murdered in the figure eight test. I mean MURDERED!
Think of the upgrade cost it would take to make a WRX beat an STI in the figure 8.
I guess what I am saying is it is great to have lots-o-power, but not when you can't lay it all down in a turn. Especially, when there are assumptions made about these insurance, parts, trade-in, and difference values.
Note....on my third EJ255 under warranty.

I want good handling to compliment the power being that this is a DD, not a race car. I probably won't get around to converting it to an STi as I don't really beat my car to hell.
Real life scenario, I go to college and just need to get to places, sure I will rally it at a few schools or do a few HPDEs. Is 10k worth it for a few track days? No. Is 10k worth it for going to the grocery store and etc? No.
With that said, I want to thank you! Because I just found my answer, being that I won't break the barrier of 350whp. And I don't do crazy stuff in my car other than drive in a few events. I really can't justify 10k for what I do these days. Plus the wrx gets better gas mileage and I have to drive my car from the bay to az.

call you insurance agent and check the price difference, it shouldnt be much. i know when i called about my 09 wrx he said the sti was only like $20 more for 6 months. and about the age price drop i know farmers still does the age price drop. you get a drop at 23 and you get another at 27. mine just dropped $50 a year when i hit 27.
your still young get the wrx, it gives you more money to play with (girls are expensive) and to have fun with as well as money to do mods. id rather own a wrx with $10,000 in mods than a stock sti but i also like having my own personal touch on my cars than to have an off the lot car. also why would you want to buy a new car just to have it sit in the garage in another state for most of the year. keep the 2008 in the garage till you graduate and then get a new subie. they are only going to make the car better in the next few years, so let the money linger and get a new one once your done with school and have the ability to constantly enjoy the thing. i have a buddy with a m5 and about $10,000 in upgrades sitting around because he currently lives in japan and it kills him to not be able to drive it or do anything with it except when he comes back to visit. he's owned it for 7-8 months and its still in the break in stage.
