ive been toying around with this idea in my head, how benificial
would it be to add a water mist to the cold air intake to make the
air more dense coming into the motor.dont think it would be that difficult a mod.just would wonder how to pulse the sprayer every
"whatever" seconds while system activated.any thoughts? and i like having a n/a so nobody better say put a turbo on.thanxs

You could do it, but the gains would be minimal. It's not really worth it until you are WAYYYYYY past stock. It's one of those things you do because you've totally ran out of other things to spend money on.

It won't do a whole lot for you. It's usually utilized to minimize preignition on highly modified vehicles where it could be a problem. It does provide some cooling effect but you'd need a really fine spray to best get that effect. I believe that ROUSH(?) makes a kit but it is probably built with V8's in mind.

I put a foil-backed foam insulation around my CAI. The air coming from the fender is already much cooler than the under-hood air, and the insulation helps keep the aluminum tubing from absorbing any of that heat, and transfering it to the intake charge. Plus, with the foil backing, it still looks shiny. I'd like to get some phenolic spacers for the intake manifold, too, but I don't want to take the manifold off (I'm too lazy).
Here's a pic of the intake with the insulation on it:

Now that's more like it. The essence of 'hot rodding'. Using simple ideas and materials to improve the performance of a vehicle. What you have there is a good idea. Simple but probably very effective. Another thing that could help if you had the gumption is a heatshield below the throttle body. I put thermal wrap around the factory header of my Escort GT and noticed a slight decrease in underhood temps, especially since the header runs right below the oil pan. Was fairly straight forward and made a small difference. Those are the kinds of things that make for good 'hot rodding'.

Before heatshielding the throttlebody, I think I'll do the coolant line bypass trick, since it routes hot coolant through the throttle body. Just bypassing that drops the intake charge temp quite a bit, I've heard, and it only takes a few ucks to buy the parts to do it. That and the phenolic spacers, and maybe even a heatshield for the throttle body, and that should keep the intake charge nice and cool.
