Would a intercooler water sprayer void my WRX warranty?
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly sure that I've read multiple threads on a few boards
that have stated that yes, it does in fact void your warranty. I don't quite understand
why either, since I agree - the STi's have them and rain will get in there anyways. Maybe
it's just DIY intercoolers? Try doing a search to verify... maybe on WRXfanatics.com and/or
nasioc.com
Something about SOA distributing fliers with pictures of things that will or should void your
warranty. As I recall, it was a fairly extensive list.

Yes, I've seen that list but there are 5 things on it I have that my dealership specifically said didn't void my warranty.
-Short Ram-air intake
-blow off valve
-underdrive pulleys
-turbo timer
-catback exhaust

Guy... a toothpick and gum wrapper under your passenger seat voids the warranty!
If you do anything, make it small. Without pumping some real power out of the car you won't benefit from a water spray (un;ess you live in humid weather in which I appologize). Work on the small intricite stuff like intake and the such, stuff that can be hidden if needed until your into your higher 20K's and by then you should know what your car is like and how erratic it is (everyone has different problems, mine is trans mounts, I SWEAR THEY'RE LOOSE!). Save your money in the meanwhile. WHen you are ready, order a Vishnu stage 1, a praxis suspension system, a body kit of your liking, hot light-weight rimmy's and TA-DA.

Short ram intakes do indeed void the warranty due to causing the car to run lean. Undampened pulleys can also be blamed for problems involving the crank, rods, or pistons.

The Intake and Pullies sure could void a warranty... if the dealer 'Wanted' to report it.
Not all dealers tho will void a warranty just becuase of these things. But if they DID cause damage or your engine died... you'd have a long rough road ahead of you.

It wouldn't be too surprising if it did.
They built the car with trans, clutch, brakes, shocks, connecting rods, etc. to support a 227 HP engine.
If you come in with one that makes more power than that, it could be argued that it was your fault.
There's also a limit of some weight for towing (It ain't worth the time to go look). If you came in towing more that that and your clutch or brakes were fried, they might deny you for that too.
There's a limit for how much weight you can carry on the roof of the wagon. Carry more than that and the roof caves in, ditto.
Etc, etc, as nauseum.

Because i'm a jackass, that's why.
No seriously. The factory system is designed to work with factory components. Any deviation from this is now not the scenario where they did their testing.
AND/OR
The factory bov is routed back into the intake. If you have it venting to the atmosphere, you have taken away another component of the factory proven equipment (that recirulated air) and that is why your car behaves the way it is doin.
You guys are lucky i'm not a service writer at a dealership. I'll grant that i wouldn't push these reasons in all cases of warranty claims, but if they were claims related to idle or stumbling or hesitation of the engine, then i'd say you could go right to hell.

Who knows anymore about ANY mods. it's all rumors or he said/she said. I can almost bet you void a warranty for the drivetrain by installing a armrest extension. Who knows? i bet it depends on the guy(s) mood when you take your car in. If he got laid the night before then im sure NOS wouldn't void the warranty. It's all based on "the man's" aka SOA desicion for any given situation they won't be liable and won't hurt their wallet. Just hope the guy looking under your hood isn't a *****
