Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

turbo 98 2.5 rs

i just got my 2.5 rs like 6 months ago and i love the car to death ive never slid a turn but i want to get a lot more power out of my top end which leads me to think turbo.... but my cars got 102000 miles on it and several of my friends with other cars tell me to turbo it but im wondering will that shorten my motors life and is it worth it or is there something else i should do to it like dont waste my time and save up to swap a motor in like 2 years...... though id ask people who know what there talking about more than i do any help greatly appciated

For those miles I would just wait for a swap and a swaps price isnt too far off compared to a turbo "kits" price. I have a '01 RS and all my turbo stuff is getting shipped out this friday but my car only has 41,xxx miles on it. When my engine dies, eventually, I will do a WRX swap.

the genral viewpoint of experianced people is that turbo-ing a NA is a waste of time. yes its fun, and yes a used turbo kit can be sold for about the same price paid, so if you wanted to boost it you could do it at about no cost overall if willing to potentially sacrifice your stock motor to the cause.

also, if you are lookign for a REAL top end power engine, you need a real engine.

no USDM motor will have top end power. EJ205 normal wrx, and Ej257 usa sti are NOT top end power motors. power dies ~6K or so and the turbine dosnt pull any more.

if you want a motor that is useful to 7K++ you'll need to make a search for a JDM engine. being in norcal, there are alot of compaines here. pm me for more info

i beg to differ, an ej22T with any sort of wrx heads jdm or usdm would rip up top, and handle ridiculous boost too being closed deck and all...

question is how much money do you have and how much of it, or in debt, do you want to spend. i say get a nitrous kit and just drive it hard(er) (...into the ground)

no offense to everyone else. But dont listen to them. I have a 98 Impreza with a stock 2.5L (non-sti) block and heads. I have a TD04 turbo pushing about 6-7 psi, no engine management, no fuel controller (just a walbro 255 liter/hr fuel pump) I also have a 100 shot of nitrous that I use oh to often. Now I know what your thinking, "It will only last a few months" But Ive driven this car from PA to South Florida and put over 30k miles on it and have had this setup running for over a year. No problems, leaks, nothing. And it runs 12.291 @ 107 mph. I do have a few other things done to it, but none of them would help reduce the risk of blowing an engine. AND I turbo'd my car for less than 1k. including parts and labor.
