Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

The process is somewhat hard to explain. The best description I could give you is that I chopped it in half and flipped it around. Without photos, I can't really explain it that well, but here it goes.

Here's the easy part. You'll need the half of the stock intake box that has the metal clamps. Basically, you'll have to imagine a line just above the ridges and cut along the imaginary line. I think it's about an inch from the edge. The reason for this is so that you retain the clasps to hold the filter in. The hardest part is getting the plastic elbow off. Even mine has an ugly dip there. Just be sure when you cut it, the section with the clamps stays together. Do not split the plastic when you cut around the tube!!!!

Once the back is cut off, the remainder of the clamp section should be about an inch tall. Again, this is what is going to keep the filter in.

Here is the tougher part. You'll have to take the opposite half of the box (the side that attaches to the throttle body) and cut the rubber, and only the rubber off. It's glued on really good to the box so you'll have to go in pretty careful. There is a small lip under the rubber that will be needed in order to fit the box to the throttle body. When you get that rubber neck off, clean the lip as best you can by sanding, or whatever you can do to clean the rest of the rubber off.

When that is done, you'll need to get an elbow to angle the box in the right area. Keep in mind that if the elbow is too long, the box will hit the hood. I got my elbow from home depot. It's a black rubber 3" 90-degree elbow, complete with hose clamps. The elbow is way too long as it is, so it will need to be trimmed. I can't give you an exact measurement as to how much was cut off. You'll have to experiment. But I can tell you that the flanges on both sides of the elbow were cut off so it is considerably shorter.

Once the elbow is cut at the angle you need, bolt everything together and install. I also had to fabricate a brace for the box because the rubber alone isn't supportive enough and the box will wiggle around, especially when you start the engine. My brace goes from the mount on the box where the stock one was, to one of the screws on the starter motor.

That's it. Attach all vacuum hoses and give it a go. Hope this gives you an idea of how it was done. Just look at the photos I posted to get a better idea. Good luck, man.

you guys can all laugh but the thing really works...the splitter seals out the rest of that hot air surfacing around the intake and now the intake just sucks in all of that outside cold air!! I love my custom innovations...hehe

I love the sound of it. It's very quiet around town but upon WOT it's loud as hell! Has a lot more mid to top end response now. When it's cold at night i notice very good gains... i just put the stock one back on because it's raining like crazy over here so i'll update when i put it back on because i've never had the stocker on before.
