Rallitek Intake/ custom heat shield
I installed a Rallitek intake a few weeks ago on my 98OBS, and I love the new sound and I notice the torque gains, though small. After looking at the setup for a while, I thought it would be fairly simple to fabricate some sort of airbox to shield the engine heat. So my buddy and I found some scrap aluminum and an old fiberglass kit and got to planning... A few rivets and a couple coats of paint later.... voila, my very own custom designed heat shield. (can you tell I'm quite proud of my creation?) Please don't burst my bubble on this one... I'm open to criticism on the looks and functionality of it, just take it easy... And of course, positive comments and questions are welcome as well.
Don't hate... Fabricate!

Thanks for the reply!
I don't know where the kit I used was purchased, but I'd try an auto parts store that carries body work supplies. You should find some kind of fiberglass kit near the bondo, etc.

Anyone who is smart enought to think up their own intake mods deserves praise. I bet that made a good difference too. I also made my own heat sheild. Mine is easiest for MAF based subies.
I got a bucket about as big as my cone filter at the base and stenciled in the bolt pattern from the MAF on the base of it. Drill holes for the screws and cut a hole for the intake itself and now I have a fully sheilded air filter and the opening faces the fender wall for the coolest intake temps possible with the filter in the engine bay. Its also fully protected from the elements, unless I go through more than a foot or so of water...I'll post some pics if I cam get a cam and stuff.

Thanks soggynuts
Yeah, I impressed myself with this because it was a spur-of-the-moment, half-baked (
or more like fully baked
) idea.
