how much more power after break-in (04 RS)?...
Hey all! Got my RS today, and from the 40 or so miles I put on it already, I swear it's gotten a tad more peppy... It's prob. my mind, I'm guessing not too much happens within 40 miles in terms of rings seating etc...
anyway, just wondering if anyone's noticed if their 2.5L got any quicker towards the end of break in?

It really is a different car after the break in. I passed the 1k mark about a month ago in my 04 RS and it has been a blast ever since. It definitely feels peppier when you actually push it over 4k rpm and sounds great too.
It may not be the car actually getting quicker, but being able to push it more gives it a quicker feel. It could be all mental though.

nice!
the car's got around 50 miles on it, and it's a blast already.
Not having to go past 3.5k rpm to get moderate acceleration is just a new concept with me I guess
I'm defintely getting the oil changed at 1,000 miles just to be on the safe side...

Actually, the car is probably a little faster now than when you rolled it off the lot. That's just the nature of the ECU. It mau get a little quicker, but it has probably already made most of the gains it is going to.

Not exactly, it learns how you drive and takes everything into consideration like air temp and air density and optimizes the fuel maps for the most power and of course your driving style. I've heard that after driving a Suby for a while the cars do in fact produce more power, but if you disconnect power to the computer it will reset and have to learn all over again. I'm not sure you can feel the difference, but you may notice a small difference in mpg and the numbers should be noticeable on a dyno.
as a sidenote; I'm told these ECU's are quite extraordinary. One of my friends is building a small plane and he said he was going to use a Suby engine that would be fitted with a supercharger and redundant systems. The cool thing is he's going to use the OE ECU and he said it is capable of supporting various functions for this task including controlling prop pitch. I know this is off the subject , but I thought it was cool.

If you want even a better ecu try getting a jdm version. japan is funny that way. they keep the best and trash the rest. even as good as the u.s. spec ecu is awesome. . . just imagine the jdm

ok, I bought my car used and am unsure how the previous owner drove it but from what i do know it was much less, um, "spirited." Not to try to steal the thread but the question popped in to my head, would I benefit by reseting my ECU so it can learn and adapt to MY driving?

Well depending on how long you've had the car and what mode you've done if any, the car should have learnt your driving style by now. Resetting the ECU just speeds it up a bit. So i would say no you wouldnt have to reset it, but then again it wont hurt as long as you do it right (disconnecting the negative 1st! and only)
