We've got a new product that we're really excited about: SMC Alcohol Injection. It's got a ton of potential but it's still a very cost effective mod. Designed to be a hassle free upgrade, this package includes everything you need to get alcohol injection running properly on your car. Although many people are “scared” of alcohol injection, if utilized properly, it is perfectly safe while also being one of the best bang for the buck power adders available for a boosted car. Alcohol injection works by injecting a fine mist of alcohol into the intake stream. This does two important things:

1) Alcohol Injection lowers the temperature of the intake charge to create a denser (and thus greater) air mass.

2) Alcohol Injection raises the effective octane of your fuel which works towards avoiding detonation (the sworn enemy of engines).


These two factors are particularly beneficial on turbocharged cars because the effectiveness of turbocharging is dependent on having a dense and cool intake charge while also avoiding detonation. Boosted engines are particularly succeptable to detonation because they can see such high pressures and temperatures. By increasing the effective octane of your fuel, it allows you to run higher boost and add more timing advance. It is not uncommon to see HP gains as high as 20-30% with these changes, regardless of modifications. Additionally, two added bonuses of alky injection are that it also cleans your engine and will work with pump gas.

The SMC Alcohol Injection System is unique, reliable, and safe in several regards. Designed from the ground up specifically for the Subaru WRX and STi, this system includes a 1 gallon washer fluid tank that serves as a reservoir. This makes for a very simple and stealthy install. A small auxilliary washer tank/pump that mounts in front of the battery is also included so that you can still clean your windshield. Another unique feature of this kit is the Progressive Controller. An extremely small unit that can be fitted nearly anywhere (it measures only 2.75" wide x .9" high x 4.6" deep), this microprocessor based device will automatically increase alcohol spray pressure as boost rises. This system runs on denatured alcohol that can be bought nearly anywhere.

As is wise when running high boost levels, tools critical to tuning are highly recommened to be used in conjunction with this kit. A wide-band 02 controller, knock link, and tuning are suggested.

If you consider your engine a worthwhile investment (which I think most of you do), you might want to consider this little insurance policy:

An extremely valuable tuning tool and problem indicator, the Link Knock Link w/ Bosch Knock sensor is a critical component for the highly modified engine. Highly modified engines run the thin line between peak power and engine failure. This failure is often caused by detonation. The Knock Link uses a highly sensitive (and superior) to stock) Bosch knock sensor that is extremely sensitive to detonation. The Knock Link alerts you the moment detonation is occurring; not after you've finished looking at your data logs or blown your motor. The Knock Link can protect your motor while tuning or simply when you get a bad tank of gas. It is our opinion the Knock Link belongs right next to the Wide Band O2 sensor and is a necessity for the highly modified engine; think of it as cheap insurance to protect your high performance (and expensive) motor.

Why pay $1600 for an STI shortblock just to throw in $500 forged pistons, then pay $200 for installation ($2300) when for $299 more you can purchase a Gruppe-S Stage One Shortblock ($2599)?

Stage 1:

Not so crazy that it can’t be driven on the street but strong enough to handle almost anything that can be throw at it, the Gruppe-S 2.5 Stage One Motors are designed to reduce the compromise between high horsepower and reliability. Available as either a short block or long block that utilizes either your USDM STi’s AVCS heads or WRX EJ20 heads off of your own motor (includes custom gaskets for proper compression ratios), this motor is essentially a beefed up version of the USDM STi motor. Derived from our extensive experience building and tuning both race and street cars, our Stage 1 eliminates the failure points of the stock STI engine. We have replaced the stock hyper-cast pistons with our custom forged units by Wiseco. Wiseco Pistons were selected due to their versatility for both street and race applications; they eliminate the compromise of a "loose" race piston by retaining a better operating range. The factory bearings have also been replaced with coated race units that eliminate the spun / seized bearing issue we often see in high power applications. The longblock utilizes Cometic gaskets and ARP Head Studs to affix the heads to the block. Finally, the entire assembly is professionally balanced and assembled to race specifications (within 1 gram). When coupled with the lighter forged pistons, the is a redline that has been raised to 7500RPM. We recommend this short-block for all Subaru owners making in excess of 460HP. Can the stock motor hold more power? Yes, but based on our experience building and tuning literally hundreds of Subarus, the reliability of the engine becomes questionable at those power levels.

Assembly time is generally 2-3 weeks. For the Long block option, we require a core charge for the heads which will be refunded if you heads are in good working order.

The combination of forged pistons, coated race bearings, proper balancing, and re-worked crankshaft yields a potent short-block capable of supporting a staggering 600HP while also revving to 8000RPM. On the longblock option, Gruppe-S Stage Two camshafts (AVCS on STI), an upgraded valvetrain, and titanium retainers are added for extra breathing ability.

Assembly time is generally 2-3 weeks. For the Long block option, we require a core charge for the heads which will be refunded if you heads are in good working order.
