Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

can the AT on a 2.5 take more power?

can the AT on a 2.5 take more power?

...or will it just blow up on me? I just picked up an 2000 rs with an AT, I wanted the 5 speed but hey, the price was right and the miles low (AWD for the snow was my principle goal for this purchase), and I was wondering if a can squeeze a -little- bit more power out of it without fragging the drivetrain. I'd be willing to dump in the range of a grand into this... I'll likely do something to the rear sway/suspention as well, maybe brakes, but there is plenty of info on that already. The thought of this car handling better makes me giddy, but I really would love a few more horses.

Any help would be much appreciated on this issue, thanks.

Nah, no turbo for me, I'll just try to see what I can squeeze out of the block using naty asperation. Since I live in Cali I'll need to deal with various smog issues every couple of years so I won't be able to go too nuts, which may be a good thing in terms or cash but won't help me so much with the ponies. I'd actually be really happy with a small gain of 20-30 hp. I'm sure I can find info on this with a search, but any suggestions on little things that'll get me those 20-30? (I'm guessing cold air, exhaust, cam maybe)

I'll definately want to upgrade the rear sway to an 18 or 20, maybe some other easy to get to suspention components. I don't know a whole lot about brake systems, but that might be something to look at later.

Right, well any thoughts from those of you with a bit more experience would be helpful.

well technically any engine mod done to your car is illegal. all except catback exhaust. if you dont care go for full exhaust (equal length headers, high flow cat or track pipe, catback) intake, maybe a light pully (dont get underdrive) and then cams. that should be good. you have a very good chance of getting a engine light with this setup too.

Thanks for the info... I think I'll start with the catback and the cold air intake, 20mm sway, and front and rear strut tower braces. See how I feel about that, if I feel like I need more I'll hit up the headers and pully. As my mechanical ability is limited, I'll have to get some real motivation to do the cam, esp if I'll need to change it back before I get smogged again (I guess the pully would be a pain too).

Again, thanks for the help.
