the evo bottom end is pretty strong. ive heard that the EJ25 just hasnt been around long enough to be fully developed. the Evo block has been around for a while so Mitsu has been able to get most of the kinks out of it.

When you start making BIG power numbers Subaru motors will always start to fall behind. the features that make it so torquey in stock trim (essentially the long intake and exhaust runners) become restrictions when you try to flow lots and lots of air and make 600 hp. It's a fact of life. If you want a 12 second back mountain road terror, I'll always take a Subaru. If you want an 11 second car, start with an inline 4 if you want a small motor/big turbo combo.

With light mods the EVO and STI are pretty close,....but start throwin cams and other stuff into a EVO and it will start makin more hp then a STI...........the MAIN reason being of the FAR better factory turbo..........and better FMIC setup.

I think Vishnu is still using the fairly small and heat soak prone factory top mount intercooler...?????
Upgrade the turbo and add a front mount intercooler like the EVO has, and it should even the playyin field.........to a degree....

Youve got to understand that the evo motor has been around for a really really long time.

I agree 600hp is a lot to expect from a 2.5 liter four cylinder.

But also consider that there are classic VW bugs that make lots of power out of engines less than 2.5 liters. It will take some time for tuners to find that much power from Subaru's engine, but it'll happen eventually.
