2004 RS K&N air filter?
Help!
I was wondering if you guys had any info on a K&N air filter for my 04 RS. I know the car's new and K&N doesn't actually make one for it yet, but will another year fit or does another company make a similar filter that might work? I heard Accel makes a K&N type filter, but I haven't had the chance to check them out yet. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can ya tell I'm a little high-strung.

Sure I'll tell ya why I want one. The oil soaked media catches particles that dry filters just can't. I live in CO so it's pretty dry and dusty most of the time. Anyway I had a 78 FJ40 with a Weber carb and though I had a Toyota paper filter I was still getting a film of this very fine silt on the throat of my carb. The parts guy at Toyota recommended a K&N replacement and I never saw the silt again. That made me a believer. Since then every vehicle I've owned has had a K&N installed.
Cool, well I would imagine that a filter for the 02/03 fits fine since I don't think they changed the airbox. My suggestion is to post up in the local forum and find someone with a 2.5l 02/03 and ask if you can try their air filter (doesn't matter what kind as long as it goes in the stock airbox) and see if it fits. You can always just find a pic of an old engine bay and see if it looks the same and take your chances.
If you have the money you might want to just buy a full intake. My Cobb has a K&N, as does Injen I believe.

dont worry
mechanicly the 2.5rs hasnt changed since it came out. definatly get the k&n filter. I suggest you also take all that plastic pipeing off. its easy to do you only need to unscrew 2 bolts and it pretymuch pulls off. all that stuff does is restricts airflow and muffle the intake noise. w/o it wou can get more air=more power. you also get a little more noise. another suggestion, put the pipeing back on before you take it in for dealer service

Cool, thanx guys
I eventually want to get the Cobb intake and full exhaust. I just don't want to run into warranty issues. So I'm gonna wait a little while.

OK, this go's out to all with those with a 2004 2.5 R.S that want to install a K&N air filter. You'll have to excuse my silliness
,but while I was changing my plugs out today to Iridiums I pulled the air filter out to take a look at it and low and behold it had a part # (16546AA070) on it. Well I went to the K&N site to try and cross reference the # and it so happens it's the same # as the 98-01 Imprezas so the K&N # is 33-2154 and I'll be ordering it on Monday. Who new it'd be that easy.
